Just in time for the new year, I did it: I finished a sketchbook that I've been working on as a side project since 2019. A small sketchbook filled with full page completed illustrations and sketches. cover to cover, both sides of every page. 56 drawings counting the covers.

A month ago I had to put my cat Mila down. Haven't talked or posted about it much. I've lost pets before, but her passing affected me way more & for way longer than I thought it would. She was a great cat that loved & was loved by everybody that met her.

So much detail put into this thing, and yet I still think the superior version is the one caked in loads of fake film grain that obscures most of it.

Digital painting of a D&D OC. They are a hybrid character with a bottom half that is a giant purple bioluminescent squid monster with a visible mouth full of sharp teeth, and a top half that is a dark elf with black raven wings and glowing eyes and no facial features. Also, she is "tastefully Quelaag'd" (actual directions).

Sketching and underpainting started in Procreate but moved to Gimp fairly early on.

I've noticed this account gaining traction among a few people I follow. Sadly this person is blatantly posting unedited and/or barely edited AI output and trying to pass it off as original art. With a lot of the other images it's hard to spot but they were especially careless posting this one.

reposted image with highlighted examples of AI image generation artifacts, including multiple instances of the model failing to maintain consistent lines when objects overlap.

Inscrutable, psychedelic, abstract, high detail ink drawing.

If you step back a bit and squint you can see that a lot of it is a very abstracted depiction of a face through a gas mask or some other kind of helmet with a big glass viewport.

The text on the right reads "fuck schemes." In the middle of drawing the face - and a little bit high - I was feeling like I was overthinking the process and getting stuck on certain details and what meaning the drawing is conveying. I wrote that line as a way of telling myself not to get hung up on the process (overthinking = planning, planning = scheming. fuck schemes).

This wasn't one of the first drawings I did in this overly-detailed style, but that phrase kind of became the mantra of all the similar work that preceded and proceded it (I don't think proceded is a word). In this era of my work I would make a point to be more spontaneous and just fill the page with whatever came to mind. These days I want to make more art with a story, but I think I needed to spend a bunch of time working this way.

This drawing was made with a mix of brush pens and felt tipped pens.

Coloured ballpoint pen drawing of a diagram of these silly little alien guys called "Winglers." The drawing labels their "finglers," "eyenglers," "feenglers," and heart. There is absolutely no lore to these guys. I made them up while I was high a year ago based entirely on the idea that "the wingler's finglers" sounds funny.

thanks! I went for a different approach than usual, but it worked well. I started with a greyscale sketch, then I created a new layer and added colour haphazardly, overlaying it with the "color" layer setting (should be the same in any art app). it's chaotic but helps me break colour choice habits

i call this one "inscrutable nonsense" in the alt text but there is actually kind of a method to the madness. i saw a graphic of the chemical used in ritalin (Methylphenidate) and thought it kind of looked like a face when flipped upside down. my pareidolia is working around the clock
