Vegan gimbap (a Korean dish similar to sushi) filled with rice, pickled radish, vegan egg, carrots, spinach, and vegan bulgogi (made using marinated soy curls). Don't worry about taking seconds...there's five other rolls in the kitchen. :3

Every morning the first thing I do is hop into suit, make coffee, exist. Every. Morning. Most evenings after work I do the same (minus coffee). I love performing in suit; I also love BEING in suit because it is a body that fits better than my own. It's an approximation, but it sure goes a long way.

Nope. Can't be over. No way. 2.5 weeks in Japan...surely it's only just begun? What a thrilling adventure. I've so much to revisit, think about, process....For the moment though I'm gonna take one from the many Buddhist temples I visited and just... Appreciate the now. Hear what's around me. Rest.

Today, at Tenryu-ji Temple in west Kyoto, I got to eat shojin ryori (vegan Buddhist monk food). Its small, colorful dishes represent the five flavors: sweet, sour, salty, bitter, umami. Veganism has long been important to me, but this added a new dimension: peace, calm, and connection to nature. 💚

Best part of the day was at the end, at a vegan place called Zirael. Tomo, the chef, was so affable and funny. We chatted a bunch, the food was fire, and I just felt instantly welcomed despite not knowing Japanese. US hustle-and-bustle culture misses stuff like this.

Kyoto is unreal. I started the day at Fushimi Inari Taisha, the Shinto shrine famous for its thousands of torii, and walked north. I saw the Buddhist Tofuku-ji temple and zen garden; visited Kyoto National Museum; spent too much money on beautiful ceramics; had the finest vegan cuisine. [...]

Yesterday was a travel and exploration day! Hung out around Shinagawa Station before meeting @obstriker.bsky.social and @keesh.work and heading south to Toyohashi. The train stations are big but navigable, and it was a dream come true to ride the bullet train. Today: JMoF and fursuiting all day!!

Vegan and right there with you haha. There are some OK replacements, but I don't crave anything meat-like. So much amazing world cuisine is vegan or easily veganizable, so there's really endless inspiration for new dishes/flavor profiles. Pictured: vegan homemade Ethiopian
