I beg you to read a major criminology journal or attend a major criminology conference and try to tell me this is a remotely accurate characterization
What if sociologists thought deeply and just landed on emancipation and social justice as important? Why would this be difficult to believe, unless you are so arrogant that you think you are one of the only “deep thinkers” in the field
Why would this be bad? Inequality covers an immense amount of topics and is a normal thing for sociology to focus on, especially if other disciplines are not
This is false. There is a huge amount of scholarship using experimental methods to study discrimination in sociology, and I would even argue that that type of methodology has become *more* favored in the field in the past 10 years

It is insane to say that sociology is not covering these issues. Who is doing this if not sociology?
One challenge in understanding this trend is that we only have data back to 2015 so we don’t really know when it started
When Pew counts the unauthorized population it includes those with and without deportation protection. It only gives us disaggregated data for 3 years, but using ChatGPT I put together a table that tells a really different story when you separate these two out

When some people look back on the pandemic, what irks them most is imperfect policy or guidance, or that they were unnecessarily inconvenienced. For me, it’s that millions of people died while Republicans said the whole thing was fake and purposefully spread misinformation
The most true answer in a widespread sense which won’t make anyone here’s list is that Republicans told them so

One critique of this Times fact check is that it implies one study found it when actually basically every study finds it. This relates more generally to the idea that journalists should cover literature reviews more and individual studies less
