I sang Landslide as a bedtime song to EG exactly once, months and months ago. Tonight I was showing her a few old pictures and caught myself singing "time makes you bolder/even children get older" and she goes "yes Mama, sing me that song, the one about the snow covered hills!"
EG is 4.5 years old that and I only realized it when I checked my Facebook memories this morning, so I enlisted her help in choosing a dessert we could make with ingredients we had on hand. I give you: a zoo cake.
Just finished this baby blanket for friends of ours who are due next month and I'm so excited about how it turned out!
These were my best breakfasts of the week, we've got three grain bread with scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, a steak and egg breakfast burrito in a sweet potato tortilla, and homemade maple chicken breakfast sausage patties and three grain bread with laughing cow cheese and cherry chia jam.
Tfw you have an ear infection so you end up wearing your Pentecost fit to urgent care instead of church
Wiener schnitzel and spätzle with caramelized onions and gruyere for the main
Austrian snacks for Eurovision! Salty snacks by Snackline (paprika crisps, bacon crisps, pretzels), Mohnflesserl (braided poppyseed rolls), Tyroler cured ham, smoked gruyere, Liptauer (paprika) and pumpkin seed cheese spreads, veggies, and Almdudler (carbonated lemonade with alpine herbs)
Went to see &Juliet yesterday and picked up this utterly ridiculous piece of merch for my correspondence.
Slowly acquiring all the backyard birds as earrings by different makers. I don't recall who made the cardinals but I got them at Next Time Around in Cambridge
Brought home a pint of the new sea buckthorn sherbet from Four All Ice Cream to try and it is unbelievably good! Like an even lighter and brighter creamsicle (and the use of coconut milk both makes it dairy free and adds extra flavour that makes it taste even better). 10/10 stars, would buy again.
Our latest piece of wall art by Permanent Pallets, purchased at Next Time Around in Cambridge. There are lots more gorgeous pieces still available, including another one in this vein.
Carrot cake trifle: carrot cake, butterscotch pudding, biscoff cookie crumbs, and cream cheese whipped cream Not pictured: the world's messiest kitchen counter
Slowly building a collection of earrings that will allow me to become the liturgical equivalent of Ms. Frizzle. I finished these this afternoon, just in time for Sunday.
This quote from Samantha Irby is such a mood honestly, it's how I feel about several of my friends' partners
Pi Day is an annual tradition in this family, and this year I got to involve EG by letting her pick the flavour. She suggested strawberry lemon, so I give you a shortbread tart with strawberry lemon curd filling.
Finished another cross stitch this week, a mosasaur skeleton as a birthday present for my sister-in-law (for whom I've also previously made stegosaurus and velociraptor skeleton from the same series)
Keeping my grandmother's memory alive for my daughter (who shares her name) by acquiring my own copies of all the books she used to keep in the Schlafbank so she could read them to her grandchildren.
Fyi, if anyone else finds themselves in a similar situation to the letter writer, I suggest quickly and quietly sneaking jars of jam into the fridge or pantry (in a highly visible spot) of family members who do love it.
"Mama, I'm just doing some lab work in my room" (The shirt she's wearing is a child sized lab coat from her dress-up box)
No to tyrants, yes to cake! Happy Epiphany! (I did not make this cake, I bought it from a local Portuguese bakery)
Also, I just finished a February birthday gift. Can't post it on other socials so my sister doesn't see it but I reckon I can post it here. It's the Ontario cross stitch to go with the New Brunswick one I gave her for Christmas.
Today I finished this angel pin, featuring embroidery floss, Mill Hill seed beads, and sylk ribbon. Only 8 of those cursed projects to go :P
I try not to buy new lip balms because I'm still working through the ungodly amount I bought in high school, but the displaced Maritimer in me could not resist these
Christkindl Markt haul! I was eyeing these mugs last year already so this year I went for it.
