Prof. Leigh was delighted to address the 45th Anniversary Reunion of the Virginia Programme in Oxford today. Very old friends, they were keen to hear more about the history of the college.

In October 2022 Angelica Lawson came to St Anne's from St Benedict's School in Ealing to read for a degree in Classics. She leaves us with a hugely impressive First and a place to read for the Oxford Masters in Ancient History. Prof. Leigh looks on in awe.

For connoisseurs of "Honey, I shrunk the Tutor", here is Sofia with a beaming Prof. Leigh.

Graduation Special 2026. In October 2022, when still not yet 17, Sofia Arata came from Collegio San Carlo in Milan to read for a degree in Classics. She leaves us with a First and a place to read for the Oxford Masters in Education. Her tutors could not be more proud.

Charlotte Hampson of St Anne's has just taken Distinctions in the Preliminary Exams for both Latin and Portuguese. In the process she hoovered up three University prizes. Given that she also won Blues in Touch Rugby and Gymnastics, it's been quite a first year for her.

For the last term we have been blessed to be joined by Plumer Visiting Fellow Prof. Goran Stanivukovic (second from left). Among those at his farewell drinks were Matthew Leigh, Kate McKee, Carla Suthren, Syma Khalid, and Francesca Beretta. Dear Goran, please come back soon!

Dr Bispham caught up with our Lecturer in Ancient Philosophy, Dr Stefan Sienkiewicz, whose kindness, brains, and superabundant curls must make for a sensational tutorial experience.

Three dear friends of the Classical School joined us: DPhil. student Matthew Wainwright who has been teaching Latin for us; JRF in Medieval French Dr Cat Watts; and our Lecturer in Italian and star Dantista Kate McKee.

Elise Stringfellow has just completed her MSt in Classical Languages and Literature and is off to read for a Graduate Diploma in Law. Prof. Syma Khalid and Dr Francesca Beretta rock the dark glasses. Francesca leaves us after 2 wonderful years for a Fellowship at the Center for Hellenic Studies.

Dr Holly Hunt fresh from a year lecturing in Greek and Latin Languages and a wild night in the pub with Mick Jagger shares a drink with Joe Nicholas, who has overcome more challenges than anyone deserves to complete an Oxford degree, and Eve Harrington, who has been the best of Graduate Scholars..

Some highlights from our annual farewell drinks. Angelica Lawson leaves us with a conditional place to read for the Master of Studies in Ancient History. Her proud tutor, Dr Ed Bispham, was there to help celebrate the end of Finals.

May 15th was Poppit's 6th birthday. Her fan club in the St Anne's College Middle Common Room very kindly invited her to join their summer garden party and she had a wonderful time. Cake may have been consumed.

Prof. Leigh had a wonderful time last night talking to pupils from King's College School, Wimbledon, The London Oratory School, and Harris Academy, Wimbledon, about 'Dido, Aeneas, and Carthage'. Many thanks to all involved.

Prof. Leigh visited City of London Academy, Southwark, yesterday to talk to students in Years 9-12 about Cicero's Pro Roscio Amerino. He is pictured with teachers Beth King and Matthew Mears and Year 12 pupil Charlie. Great to see Latin thriving in this inner-city Comprehensive.

Before and after. Our students Elijah, Elise, Evie, Maya and Max started Honour Moderations a week ago last Monday. Ten three-hour papers later, they are done. Many congratulations to them all.

St Anne's Classicist Alice Braim (on the left with fellow singer Iris from St Catz) was part of a terrific a cappella concert tonight starring the Oxford Belles, Out of the Blue, and the visiting UVA Virginia Gentlemen. Congratulations to all involved!

St Anne's Classics Junior Year Abroad student Lilly Baumfeld had her mom pitch-side this morning as she helped the Oxford Women's Lacrosse second team record a memorable 9-8 win over Cambridge. Prof. Leigh and Poppit went along to offer their support.

The evidence suggests that Poppit thoroughly enjoyed St Anne's JCR welfare puppy petting this afternoon. We knew that she was distantly related to a wolf, but maybe an otter as well?

Last night brought our termly Lockdown Translations Unlocked evening of creative translations. Here are just some of those who featured. Many thanks to Dr Francesca Beretta for organising a great event and all those who contributed.

Maccu. A Sicilian fava bean soup of which Prof. Leigh learned in Goliarda Sapienza's 'The Art of Joy'. The name is optimistically linked to Maccus, the gourmand of Atellane farce.

Poppit the Classics School dog is getting into the festive spirit and wishes all her fans the very best.

We took the annual St Anne's Classics School photograph today. The sun was low but at least it made an appearance. As did Poppit the dog.

It was Junior Common Room puppy petting today, so Poppit the dog went through her full beauty routine last night. Here she is after her bath but before the hairbrush struck.

In the name of embodied research, first year St Anne's students Harvey (Pentheus), Alice (Cadmus), and Hannah (Tiresias) made their own translation of Bacchae 170-370 and performed it for a select audience (Prof. Leigh). We then discussed what this revelatory experience had taught us.

The new St Anne's Classics undergraduates are here and coming for their first meeting with tutors at 2.30 p.m. Our welfare assistant looks forward to assisting them in their studies.
