Here’s an interestingly weird UX decision I found on Nextdoor while trying to get someone to stop using my address for their account. If you uncheck “Stay logged in on other devices” it won’t let you proceed, and insists you must always use this apparently mandatory option.

A password reset interface with a check box labeled “Stay logged in on other devices”. I have removed the check.

Everything would be simple under a Scottish model.

An “are you Scottish” flowchart as posted by James Doleman on Twitter. At the top is the question “Do you want to be Scottish?” and the ‘no’ branch leads to “Aye you do” and back to the first question. The ‘yes’ branch leads to “Ok, you’re in.”

Apparently not indicative of any bad results, fraud or such, but having the same results published in multiple places. This particular bit of tomfoolery by Springer caught my eye, though.

Springer Nature deviated from the normal practice of merely slapping the word RETRACTED across the digital version of the paper while still allowing scholars to read the text. Instead, the publisher posted a blank white page with the cryptic phrase, "This article has been withdrawn due to article violation." Springer Nature was nevertheless still selling the empty PDF for $39.95 until this story was published.
