COMIC SHOP CLOSED, WATCH FOR NEWS Small business owner in Kenton, Portland OR. Proud hubby & Dad. Comic books! Local & national news junkie! Wow, how many characters do I get?
We were dog owners again for an hour or 2 this morning when some neighbors found "Diamond" but had to go out. Reunited with fam after a neighbor text thread sent them our way.
I went to the McCoy Park popup event, it was pretty lame, just a table up at the block party where you could do the survey (I already had). Loud and hot and Ryan and Pirtle-Guiney were there but over at another booth. I guess there will be one literally at the Moda Center on Sunday.
Oregonian online going up to $17.50 now. At Ten Bucks I dropped it due to their teachers' strike coverage (don't ask), but picked it up again at $12.50 due to the 12 or so gift shares per month (which are fun!). Is it worth it? Maybe I'll take some time away again & decide.
Wow, like, 46 years later it clicked that early in JAWS when Richard Dreyfuss swims under Ben Gardner's boat and finds a body, he doesn't have a SCUBA tank, just there holding his breath! Kinda crazy. A movie today would probably spell it out more. Maybe not, we got some smart stuff today.
Gonna sit in the back at JAWS in concert and be all smug like, They're doing this because *I* asked for it with every survey, social media post, etc.
Got this in a PRH package, interesting timing as they close down 2 (3?) retail outlets here & union news. I can give them out at popups tho, people like stickers and I think DH is still well thought of here, just a little more chaotic rn.
I attended the zoom call on Wednesday for Portland For All, really interesting. An analysis comparing to other team stadium upgrades showed how the Portland deal so far really doesn't add anything to the community.
It's funny the stuff you find, this Absolute 1st printing was in a box & I see it's selling for $10, no reason not to put it on the 'Bay & make a couple bucks. Yard sale folks aren't gonna be looking for one particular issue AND generally don't want to pay collector prices.
Was working in the basement and found this complete POLICE SQUAD DVD, I had no idea we owned it! Should be fun.
Approved for Comic Cave booth @ Kenton Street Fair again! Come see me Sunday August 16th. I guess it's pretty popular/competitive for vendors & well curated by the great folks who put it on, so it's nice of them to allow my dumb ass. Plus my happy spot. Probably the most fun popup I did last year.
In the 70s-80s we typed our homework on typewriters in front of wallpapers with a mouse on our shoulder!
Sold a book on Shopify but got this for the 1st time. Product purchased from Hungary, supposedly from one addr. in NYC going to a diff addr in NYC. Billing addr does not match card addr from bank. They encourage you to research demographics & decide whether to cancel, it's the risk of reversal.
Trying to make sense of this Kindle warning - why did they send it if it doesn't apply? And the screen they send me to doesn't say which 'generation'? I did buy it refurbished. I'll have to call tomorrow after work. Not thrilled about losing any access at all.
Someone shared this Terminator meme on the Back to the Future FB group I belong to where people looking for clicks argue plot holes. Struck me funny, I saved it for future use, not sure what yet.
I feel like it's some kind of metaphor that the past 2 episodes of THE PITT have a woman in a red white & blue bikini severely sunburned but showing up walking around in the background multiple times. Like, she's the grim reaper for democracy or something.
The Ben Dewey cover for Godzilla vs Portland is making some actual movement on my online store, which hasn't seen much action at all post-pandemic LOL, I wondered if it worked LOL. I am restocking & hinted to marketing that the cover could serve as some kind of beautiful framed poster/print.
Those are so fun. I have a bag of them that someone sold to me for a song when I had the shop, I want to spruce them up to sell. Flash Gordon seems a bit up your alley eh? Great find! Hope you are well.
Stephen King: Remember the face of your father, Dad was a county planner for 25 years & wrote the impact reports. So political. Someone called our house once & left a msg (you paid to be unlisted in those days) & was like, I'm from the winery, you know, a business? You're not saving the world, bub.
Talking about going to the bird walk on Sauvie Island at 10 but I dunno. Birds don't come out when it's pouring eh?
Follower count has now reached the year I met my wife :)
Dropped off a work buddy in southwest Portland & drove by ICE HQ & took a quick dashcam video. Not a huge protest there today at 3 but folks w/canopy/table.
It's the year of my birth, get your mind out of the gutter LOL.
I have a short-box of Star Trek comics, with some extras, more than enough to fill a short-box - and it occurred to me that I could probably make it all into a long-box & add in the Shatner/Nimoy comics I have sitting around (TEK-war I think for the Shat & Primortal for Leonard Nimoy).
Talking about planning an event for Godzilla vs Portland at a certain St Johns neighborhood barcade if you're interested! (Probably Sat March 14th, a few days after it truly comes out on Wednesday.) Pre-orders encouraged!
My new signed Steve Rude print of Batman fighting N@zis on a Gotham pier.
@johnshirley2024.bsky.social Look what I found at Fred Meyer!
