Most people under 65 y.o. who are on Medicaid are already working. Meredith is one of them. Thanks to Medicaid, she was able to leave her job to start a nonprofit that helps unhoused women & children. “The Medicaid programs allows for innovation,” Meredith says. W/o fear of losing access to care.

The healthcare crisis in this country was entirely preventable. In a 2025 poll with @hitstrat.bsky.social, we found a majority of people across the political spectrum were struggling to afford healthcare even before the expiration of the enhanced premium tax credits. This number will likely rise.

According to an exclusive NBC News report, over 400 hospitals across the U.S. are at high risk of closing or reducing services following Medicaid funding changes enacted in 2025. Those hospitals collectively serve nearly seven million patients.

About half of people who give birth each year are covered by Medicaid w/ little shared cost. The other half rely on private insurance — with a hefty cost. A 2024 @kff.org poll found pregnant ppl w/ employer coverage pay $2,743 more out of pocket, contributing to higher medical debt among new moms.
