Zoning is holding back Vancouver's prosperity SO MUCH. Look at this sea of single-family homes next to a train station (and a major bike corridor for that matter). This is just one tiny example. If Vancouver found some political it could really thrive over the coming decades.

I hear you. It is unfortunately when people make the choice to take down trees unnecessarily. My opinion is informed by the argument in the image below. Also, I think we should be targeting our acres of under-utilized asphalt to be adding trees to the human habitat of the city.

And nearby, I saw these two infills taking advantage of Edmonton's brilliant parking rules In one instance they decided for a bigger backyard and less parking, in another, double the parking and smaller backyard. It's called freedom, people!

This small, old, rotten single-family home is going to be replaced with 9 brand new ones. Steps from NAIT, two schools, a hospital, Kingsway mall, LRT, and the restaurants on 118 avenue. What a huge win for Edmonton!

A Postmedia analysis of campaign finance disclosures and official vote totals from Edmonton’s 2025 mayoral race breaks down campaign spending to show the cost per vote. Andrew Knack, who received 78,519 votes and won the race, spent $240,770, averaging $3 per vote, making his campaign the most cost-efficient. Tim Cartmell spent $812,472 for 61,668 votes, or $13 per vote, with total spending rising to about $1.48 million ($22 per vote) when including the Better Edmonton party. Michael Walters spent $346,166 ($14 per vote), while Omar Mohammad spent $199,000 ($10 per vote), according to the analysis.

In 2019 I tried to convince a prominent left NIMBY in Edmonton that denser areas are inherently more progressive so they should stop fighting an apartment building on 99th street. Their answer was "property values! parking! traffic!". ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ *screenshot from the @daveberta.bsky.social substack

Edmonton-Riverview is dissolved, decreasing the number of ridings in central Edmonton from six to five, as a result of lower population growth in the city’s central neighbourhoods compared to the suburban areas. The riding that was created in the 1997 election is absorbed into the larger proposed Edmonton-Glenora-Riverview and Edmonton-Strathcona ridings.

Do you have a humidifier in your house? The kind that blows cool mist? It is probably making your air dirty. Like, forest fire dirty! We have an air pollution monitor and we recently bought one of these "ultrasonic" humidifiers. Immediately, our monitor started showing dirty air! 🤔 1/

I’m grateful that the city is providing an alternate route to 102 ave #yegbike route (I’m also grateful for the lane itself) However, I can’t help but remember that admin’s plan back in 2015 was to not build 102 at all because of this construction delay that is now happening in 2025. 😂

This fall, the City and Marigold Infrastructure Partners (MIP) will install protected bike lanes along 103 Avenue from 103 Street to Rail Town Park, west of 109 Street. The relocated bike lanes will connect to the existing bike network and include wayfinding signage, bike signals, medians and pavement markings. To connect to the 103 Avenue bike lanes, cyclists will be able to use the existing north-south bike infrastructure along Rail Town Park Trail, 106 Street and 103 Street.
