Great remedy for the Tucson heat. I got to run a 5k on a moving cruise while looking at glaciers. Strava flagged the run 😂.
Tucson summer storm. Over 100 outside but hail is making it all they down.
I had a great time at #ASMicrobe. Serving with leadership, receiving an award, giving a talk, catching up with friends, karaoke, talking to trainees, getting a few runs in, debuting cool stuff, and much much more.
Hey #ASMICROBE I give my talk tomorrow and have two really cool things I want to share with everyone. You’ll have to come by to hear them!
Look who I found trying to take a swim in my pool. A lot of science has come from the gila monster. Really cool stuff.
Inspired! From 30:32 to 28:40. New 5k PR and a heck of a way to break the 30 min mark for the first time.
Had a really cool day advocating for microbiology research with @asm.org on the hill today. Staffers and the politicians I met with were very open and welcoming. I’m remain hopeful we can make a difference.
My heart rate went from 48 (resting) to 188 (running a race) today. I'm proud of that :)
Oh no, Strava figured out my secret to getting my work done. Just make more days in the year, simple as that.
Last chance to register for Ciencia en Español! There will be a hybrid option too. uarizona.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_...
I just finished the Costco 100k. There are three Costcos in Tucson, and if you go from point to point to point, it is about 100 kilometers. For this ride, we are a hotdog at each one (final hotdog was back at the starting point). 8.5 out of 10 would do it again. Can I get a Kirkland sponsorship?
There were a bunch. About 100 over 30 minutes or so. They all made it.
Here is a baby turtle on its birthday trying to make it to the ocean on instinct. He made it and you can make it through this week too.
This was my self care this morning. A sprint triathlon in the rain. Better than super hot imho.
Scientists make real discoveries that help real people. An investment in science is an investment in your current and future way of life. While the financial returns more than double the amount put into it, the returns in lives saved are incalculable. We all benefit when science thrives.
Bust (by 90 seconds)…the 400 feet of elevation kept me honest (pr was on flat, and it was wonderfully cold). Course record by a few minutes thought so I’ll take it.
Through biking, running, swimming, and rowing, I’ve traveled over 1000 miles so far this year. These miles were meditative, with friends, too hard to think, some combination of them. Grateful to be able to have these outlets and people to share them with. Self care is vital to make it.
This was my view during my morning swim. Gotta take these wins and good vibes where I can.
