I mostly talk about music, especially 90s + indie rock. | 319 > 515 | Additional Titles: he/him, husband, girl dad, writer, occasional podcaster | Sometimes I make beats as Hallingkast (linktr.ee/hallingkast) | My views are my own.
Tomorrow night! Aimee Mann is in Des Moines and I literally can not wait. Unbelievably, I think this will be the first concert I've attended since my daughter was born more than three years ago. That's a long damn time.
Every time I put something out, then check the streaming numbers a week later... #music #creator #realitycheck
On the hi-fi today, Hybrid - Wide Angle (2000). Checkout Beachcoma and then tell me you don't like dance music. youtu.be/TOrzgQ9Wb8s?...
Looks like a big release day for new music and I'm not close to my computer to listen/express well thought out and insightful opinions. Instead I'll just say, "what year is it, 2003?"
Listening to the new record from ear reminds me how magical the Postal Service's album was.
I never buy new records, I'm just allergic to paying more than $5 per album. But this week I made an exception and preordered the vinyl release Fall Sounds by Velour 100. This CD meant a lot to me growing up and I'm so happy to see it finally come out in this format. Nostalgia is one hell of a drug.
Weird how, when a new musician name checks an older artist - leading the younger's fans to listen to and boost the established artist's catalog - the old and new performers usually share a record label or label group. But anyway, super happy The Cure are getting noticed by the kids.
There's an argument to be made for DFA Records being post-punk label, rather than a dance music label. #NowPlaying #ListenToThis #MusicMonday #MusicCommunity #Producer #EDM #DanceMusic #HouseMusic
At least once a year or so I put on the first Clash album and am always blown away by how perfect it is. If I were a better writer, maybe I could say it more eloquently, but instead I'll just say "holy shit-balls, its a good record."
De-Inspo Post: Talking Heads put out four records between 1977-1980 that changed music forever. What have you been up to since 2023?
I said before that music festivals are a luxury item for the bourgeoisie. It's ridiculous how expensive these events are. It costs $315 for a single ticket to a regional festival in Iowa. I don't see a future for myself where I can afford something like this and still eat that month.

Guess it's time to dust off the reel-to-reel player. #highfidelity #newrelease #music
