The Government's proposals and Ofcom's investigation are important steps. Now the Online Safety Act must be used to hold platforms accountable when they fail to protect children, and to ensure young people's safety comes before engagement and profit.
Our research has repeatedly shown how recommendation systems & engagement-driven features expose young people to harm. We found TikTok recommended suicide content to simulated teen accounts within just 2.6 minutes, alongside videos promoting eating disorders & harmful body image.
The UK is taking an important step towards holding Big Tech accountable. The Government has announced plans to protect 16 and 17-year-olds from addictive platform features, while Ofcom opened an investigation into whether TikTok failed to protect children online.
Meta made $14.3 million from Medicare scammers. Every dollar came at a cost to someone's parent or grandparent. Join us & Alliance of Retired Americans for a webinar on how social media allows scammers to run ads & what lawmakers are doing to strengthen protections 👇 www.mobilize.us/allianceforr...
YouTube has shown it can reduce these harms. Now it needs to stop recommending dangerous eating disorder content altogether. Join us in calling on YouTube to implement stronger safeguards: act.counterhate.com/page/195148/...
If YouTube knows this content is harmful, why isn't it treating it that way? None of the harmful eating disorder videos we identified displayed a crisis resource panel. Even YouTube's own safety measures aren't being applied consistently.
Our testing found some progress. Harmful eating disorder recommendations to simulated 13-year-old girls dropped from 1 in 3 in 2024 to 1 in 9 in 2026 across the US, UK and EU. That happened after online safety rules came into force – showing the positive effects regulation can have on platforms.
YouTube still recommends harmful content to teen accounts, including thinspiration, extreme calorie restriction & subliminal weight-loss videos. Our new findings show the platform can reduce these harms when it chooses to. The problem isn't that YouTube can’t act. It's that it hasn't done enough 🧵
Meta has made $14.3 million from Medicare scammers. Every dollar came at a cost to someone's mom, dad, or grandparent. Now, retirement groups are calling on Congress to investigate these scams and protect seniors. We can't keep putting vulnerable users at risk. Lawmakers must act.
The European Commission has called out Meta for failing to address the risks posed by its addictive platforms, thereby breaching the DSA. We've found Meta prioritizes profit over user safety—including scaling back protections designed to reduce hate & harassment. It's time for accountability.
Section 230 lets Big Tech avoid accountability, even as their products continue to expose children to harm. As long as the law shields them from liability, social media companies won't prioritize safety. It's time for lawmakers to act. Watch our CEO @imranahmed.bsky.social on Newsmax👇

Meta is letting users issue violent threats on Facebook. We analyzed nearly 8 million comments on before and after Meta rolled back safety protections and found that violent threats quadrupled against Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle. We need accountability now.
Meta is making it easier to spread hate as violence rises. We found violent threats against Members of Congress QUADRUPLED on Facebook after Meta rolled back key safety protections in January 2025. Call on Mark Zuckerberg to curb this abuse: act.counterhate.com/page/193469/...
Last night, the House passed the KIDS Act, giving Big Tech another opportunity to avoid accountability for the harm its platforms can cause to children. We can't let this happen. The Senate must reject this flawed bill and stand up for children.
Grok generated around 3 million sexualized images in 11 days. AI tools are making it easier than ever to create nonconsensual sexualized deepfakes. The harm isn't just online. Real people are being abused and bullied in schools & communities. We cannot let this continue. We must regulate AI now.
On Monday, we brought together parents, advocates & partners to discuss the need for Big Tech accountability with @issueonereform.bsky.social. For too long, Big Tech has chosen profit over safety & avoided responsibility. We won’t let this go on. Together, we will build a safer internet for all.
Meta is making it easier to hate during a time of rising violence. We found that violent threats against Members of Congress QUADRUPLED on Facebook after Meta rolled back key safety protections in January 2025. It's time to reinstate protections on Meta platforms and stop this abuse.
Devin Norring was just 19 years old when he lost his life due to harms enabled by social media platforms. This #SocialMediaVictimsRemembranceDay, it’s time to end special immunity for Big Tech companies, and demand that they prioritize children’s safety on their platforms. Watch his story ⤵️

10 years ago, Labour MP Jo Cox was murdered by a far-right extremist partly radicalized online. Her murder was a devastating attack on democracy — and a warning about the offline consequences of online hatred and extremism 🧵
An inflatable of Musk appeared in Times Square with the banner: “SpaceX’s Grok makes AI child porn.” We found Grok produced an estimated 23,000 sexualized images of kids over 11 days in January. Trillionaire Musk lets his platform enable abuse. Time to hold xAI accountable.
We welcome the decisive action towards children’s online safety. But the ban alone is not enough. Real safety requires robust implementation and enforcement, so Big Tech can no longer escape accountability.
The UK Government announced today that social media will be banned for users under 16. This decision reflects what our research has shown for years: social media companies are willing to profit at any cost — even if it means harming kids.
Instead of focusing on the SpaceX IPO that’s making him a trillionaire, Musk is amplifying anti-migrant narratives in the wake of the unrest in Belfast. Musk's posts, and the posts from Tommy Robinson and Rupert Lowe, amplified by Musk prompted 4,000 violent replies. We need accountability now.
A former xAI employee is suing the company, alleging he was unlawfully fired after pushing to implement safety measures on Grok. The suit reinforces concerns that we have raised: xAI will do anything to avoid prioritizing safety, even when concerns come from their own employees.
This comes only a few short weeks after X agreed to a compliance program with Ofcom to tackle illegal hate and terror content. Despite this commitment, Musk’s own posts and amplified posts generated nearly 4,000 calls for violence.
