Anyone else obsessed with the Little Red Lighthouse and the Big Grey Bridge as a kid? What a view of those friends! Still makes my heart go all squishy.
Talk about a different kind of view from a hiking trail!! Truly unique hiking spot that I have somehow ignored my whole life. Someday I will follow this trail all the way to the Adirondacks... #goals
Suicide hotline call box at the entrance to the George Washington Bridge north walkway. Odd thing to see at the start of a hike, but then, the GWB is even odder. Glad it's there and I hope people use it!
I swear, the ol' spacetweep magic has been in FORCE today. Found the last spot in the crowded shade for the naval parade. The best soccer pub had a perfect table for us. Now we have found a terrific spot for the fireworks. Thanks for making today amazing, @vtjawo.bsky.social!!
Video version of the same waterfall for anyone who'd like to hear the water. Please excuse the lovely couple standing there, who were busy being delighted to discover a waterfall right by their house. ♥️ #PocketWaterfall
Every trail should end with a beautiful waterfall and icy water to soak your feet in.
I will never get enough of the juxtaposition of these little succulents(?) with the NYC skyline in the other direction. Why is this plant growing on a rock in NJ? I have no idea what it is but this is the only place I see them locally. Hence the name "Cactus Ledge" for the viewpoint. #Ramapo
But I guess my trail runners have finally bit the dust. Thank you for your ~25 years of service!
It is! Especially starting again with some fave childhood trails and mountains. It's so healing. Like I am meeting myself again through nature. I'm just a mountain girl stuck in a sea level city! Lol
Finding an absolutely perfect sitting rock with this view made me never want to walk down the hill.
A nice stroll along the ridge to let your legs relax brings you past the swimming pool and water tower. This must have been an amazing place to live.
First reward for reaching the top, ruins! This is known as Van Slyke Castle, but was originally a grand home known as Foxcroft. Built in the early 1900s and burned by vandals in 1959 after being abandoned a couple times.
NJ may lack in elevations, but ice age glaciers delivered a whole lot of rocks that add technical difficulty. This trail is moderate, but it has its moments, even a few where your hands become very useful!
Day 9 of training for the White Mountains. Day 1 of actual hiking. Ramapo Mountains State Forest was my childhood playground, one of the first places I ever hiked, parents would drop me/us kids off and we'd just wander for hours. Perfect start on a stunning day!
Sometimes you really need a goal and deadline. I love hiking and one of the reasons I kept my car was to hike more. But I barely have. Now that I'm planning to hike in the Whites of NH, I have a reason to hike locally, gotta get my trail legs back! How do you get yourself out of ruts?
A very green blast from #NYC past. I used to love stopping in for a cocktail while grubby from hanging in Central Park so I could use their fancy bathroom. Meh food, good drinks, gorgeous bar, best setting and building ever to dine in.
Unplugged for most of the day and took a nice amble in perfect weather with @souphead.bsky.social at the Cherry Blossom Festival at Branch Brook Park in Newark. An absolute gem of a public park with more cherry trees than DC! Largest collection in the US. And a fab roller rink!
Hey! I just ran across a fabulous pic from back when you got inspired to pursue this path, mere seconds ago! Seemed like nice timing with your commute view now. ♥️ 15 years ago today.
I love my city. Concerns today have included: Will they let the bars serve alcohol at 8 am on a Sunday for the Olympic hockey? (Yes) And will enough bars open for it? (Of course!) I got warning a dispensary was closing early and to get my order in for "snow day essentials." And this on my car:
I think I even found a pic of when we met! I took it, but your companion here is way cuter anyway. 😃 29 Oct 2010. And 15 years ago right nowish we were heading to the launch. Isn't that bananapants?? Feels like yesterday and 80 years ago at once.
15 years ago today I was recording for my #AbovetheSky EP. Pretty sure this is "Connections", my song about meeting the #spacetweeps. Had no idea then how much some of you would change my life forever, in the best ways. But I clearly knew this was a special thing already.
I have climbed Plowed Snow Mountain and unearthed the Trunk of Many Things. My Quest for the Unbroken Scraper is finished. On to the next Quest! I hope everyone else affected by the storm is finding their way back to normal! Slow and steady is the only way out of ice.
Got the best surprise treat today - spacetweep hugs! Amazing to see @anthrogeek.bsky.social and @redshift42.bsky.social again and share a delicious Ukrainian meal at an old favorite haunt, Veselka. Some things never go out of style, like friends and hearty winter nosh!
Apparently 16 years ago today was my 1st time ever meeting tweeps IRL. 5 met up to see Mike Massimino give a talk to mostly HS students. Great day! This led directly to SDO and my first launch, + a whole host of new friends and amazing adventures. Was so nervous to go. 😂 @genejm1017.bsky.social
It feels hilarious to celebrate our 1st anniversary when we just celebrated our 28th together. Marriage makes 0 difference in our lives. But any excuse for a celebration, especially w/ great food and even better champagne!!! Instead of saving cake, we saved champagne. Much tastier a year later!
Does this mean I now have the answer to life, the universe, and everything in italiano, too?
Nothing like seeing a classic in a classic. What a film! They just don't make them this entertaining in this millennium.
