She/her I knit, crochet, spin and embroider a bit. Devoted cat servant to Herr Professor Hector Von Whiskers
But I did it, and it even works. I hope I never get it into my head to try anything like it again...
Earlier today I found some image collages I could have used for last week's #ShowMeYourKnits but fortunately they're all shawls so I can use them for this week instead 🧶
Reminds me of when this handsome fellow kept trying to move into my house. He was lovely (and an absolute tart) but there was no way that the resident feline would have accepted another cat...
This week's theme for #ShowMeYourKnits is things you've made twice or more. I've got plenty of examples, but my most extreme was knitting Regrowth by Toby MacNutt (available for free on Ravelry) three times in as many months...
For only the second time in my adult life, I find myself catless. I'm doing okay - he'd been suffering with dementia for a while and was ready to go - but the house is awfully quiet without him.
So how has your weekend been? I've spent a good chunk of mine crocheting sparkly rainbow clothing for Fugglers... (Froggy is not my work, but he *is* very cute.)
Did I really need a new e-spinner? Absolutely not. Is it making me very happy nevertheless? Oh yes! Can't do masses of spinning until the tendonitis in my left thumb improves (can't spin with the thumb brace on because velcro) but I had to give it a twirl. 🧶 #spinning
I really wish I'd taken a picture when it was freshly styled before the wind and rain did a number on it, but I got my hair chopped off earlier this week. So glad to be rid of all that straggly damaged hair...
There's a long way to go before it's finished, but at least I've made a start on painting the main bedroom. Once it's done I can move my stuff into it and start on the second bedroom. (I also assembled a king size ottoman bed solo. This was not one of my best ideas.)
First day in the new house and I definitely made the right decision. I'm sure that there will come a point when having family so close by gets a bit much, but at the moment it's nice. And I have drunk fighty octopus coat hooks!
Some properly vintage cable knits for #ShowMeYourKnits - I'm afraid I don't have pattern or yarn details (beyond bog-standard acrylic/wool blend aran weight) as the one on the left is at least 30 years old, and the other not much newer.
The photo isn't great as I was leaning out of the bedroom window to take it, but I love the leafy patterns my new solar powered lights cast on the table...
The feeling at the start of a new knitting project when it stops being fiddly and awkward and the pattern starts to emerge... Pattern: Meg March Shawl by Kath Andrews Yarn: Posh Yarn Gina Lace and Gretchen Heavy Lace #Knitting #BriocheKnitting
I have a tendency to put my glasses down and then forget where I put them, so I've come up with a solution...
What do you think of the new hairdo? (It's a hideous photo, but it did make me giggle...)
This week I have been mostly crocheting wisteria... 🧶 I'm using the free pattern available here: www.onceuponacheerio.com/2026/05/croc...
At times it felt like this shawl was never going to end, but I'm finally casting off! Of course I've realised that my blocking pins are already packed away, so I will either have to go fossicking in the room full of packed boxes or leave it until after the move...
Just as well I wound the second skein of this hand spun yarn yesterday - 12 (600+ stitch) rows to go and the first skein has almost run out. 🧶
A beautiful sunshine-y day, and warm enough to sit out on my suntrap of a balcony with a cuppa, listening to the serenade. (At least until the denizens of the dog park down the road decided to make their contribution...)
A bit of sofa-on-sofa action going on in the hallway! And now that they're here and I no longer need to listen out for the delivery van I can go have a (much needed) nap...
On the plus side, I've managed to get a couple of Stressless recliner sofas for the new house from the local hospice charity shop. Not the colour I would have chosen but I've wanted one forever, and they were less than a tenth of the original price.
I knew there were long-tailed tits nearby as I've heard them, but I think this is the first time I've caught one on camera
It's just as well he's so darn cute, as this furry little gitface won't let me sleep past 5am...
Sometimes they share, like this goldfinch and blue tit (I wasn't paying enough attention to the autocorrect and very nearly claimed there was a goldfish on the feeder)
95% of the clientele at the bird feeder are tits (fnarr fnarr) but we do get the occasional not-a-tit...
Lace week again for #ShowMeYourKnits? Now you're talking! I don't knit nearly as much lace as I used to (there's a limit on how many lace shawls one can store/give away) but I've probably made hundreds over the years. Details in alt text...
The bird feeder has been cleaned and refilled, so here's a golden hour coal tit for your feed.
I'm barely on FB these days, but one of today's memories feels worth sharing. The first thing I went to on my own after losing Dave and the fact that it appears in @robinince.bsky.social's subsequent book I'm a Joke and So Are You. (It was totally the right thing to do, btw)
