NHS GP Federation CEO. Not a GP/clinician. Ex artillery forward observer, with dodgy knees and hearing. Favourite comment about me: "His comms style is like a brick through a window."
An email just now from Labour wanting me to rejoin the party. “Join Andy Burnham’s Labour Party”. Now, I sincerely dislike all capitals in messages but… IT’S NOT ANDY BURNHAM’S LABOUR PARTY. FFS. Labour at its best has always been a grand coalition, at its worst when it becomes about the leader.
You know when you get a machine that's annoying enough that you want to "nudge" it so it shows a proper figure? Well, the NHS's BMI calculator is that for me. Can it not show that BMI 25 dead on = "healthy"?! I know that BMI is a rough guide at best but under 25 is an important milestone for me.
"Verify your age" This is the oldest bank note in my wallet. I was already a pensioner when I got that as a brand new note in 1997.
I really do grudge this. I know that the heat causes problems with this, it's the right thing to do, and we've not had one for over a decade ... but ... I know how much my damnable water bill has gone up over the years and I grudge being told what to do with water that I pay so much for.
Persephone, Queen of the Underworld, making sure her territory is safe after sunset.
Local post box topper. Not all of this area has gone into Reform knuckle dragging then.
Seeing all the pics of the manky reflecting pool in the US made me remember the magnificent Taj Mahal view we had last winter in India.
A pic sent to me of Euston just now. How this station hasn’t had a major crush incident is beyond me. That busy with last-minute platform announcements is just daft.
Just logging off for the week and saw this pop into my inbox from Blue Light Card. Now... that brings back memories. My first ever gig was seeing them in the Playhouse Theatre, Edinburgh in 1988.
The Google Health app really is annoying me now. Its data hoovering is just persistent and I may be hurrying up my replacement plans.
I decided to spend a bit more time with the Google Health app and … well. I’ll give an example of the “health” bits. It marked my resting heart rate as “poor”, so I looked at the detail. I’m pretty happy with a 65bpm average resting heart rate so that’s just rubbish then.
One of the main reasons we moved further out into Suffolk is days like this. I just love the natural noise of a nice spring day with the birds. Chirp-o-matic is telling me the noisiest bird is a particularly loud wren that’s in the bushes near me.
My wife had a migraine last night and retreated to bed early meaning I was left to my own means. I fired up Hearts of Iron 4 and completed a game I've been at for ages with this result. Now, that's a challenge to achieve given just how much is thrown at "Communist China" in the early years.
Seriously England, get your act together with this weather. If I wanted weather like this in May I'd have stayed in Scotland.
One comment I saw on HSJ last month is pictured below. If an Exec thinks £2m of cash spend is not worth policing then I wonder how many other 6 to 8 figure pots of money are being wasted because they're beneath them. And they probably blame others for their deficit as well. 2/3
Each year, I reward myself when I finally get all our annual contracts signed off for the year (only five weeks into the FY, a new record!). This year, I've decided on a nice bottle of Macallan as a smooth alternative to my usual Islay peat monsters.
@support.bsky.team A request. If you're going to change the mandatory scripts, can you please announce them in advance? The site just seemed to go down on my browser this morning until I allowed the 2nd script to run and then it was fine. Some of us are paranoid types who block scripts.
This reminds me of this pic from 2020, Chris Whitty making his point very firmly to Boris Johnson, Matt Hancock, and Dominic Cummings. Vibes of: "I ....ing told you not to do this, but what did you do? You did it anyway, and look where we are."
Stuffed through the door just now by the current county councillor, who converted from Tory to Reform. He did an Evri and didn't ring the doorbell, instead he did a stuff & run away. Annoyed I missed him as I'd have loved to have shared my views with him.
Making a brew before a meeting, so decided to have a go while brewing. This took me 5 mins to get Feb 2026 data from the data.police.uk website, stick into PowerBI, and add a filter. This is all crime reports with weapons in Suffolk with a heatmap filter. 2nd pic is zoomed in a bit and all crimes.
