Scrolled past that too fast, made a cartoon brake noise, and scrolled back to see if that was Kim Darby or John Davidson. Wrong on both counts! 🤷♂️
"This fried chicken tastes horrible, Matt. How the hell did you cook this?"
Anything I can think of would be gilding the lily, honestly. (The tops are cute; I wonder how matchy/matchy the rest of their outfits are.)
THANKS SO MUCH for this! I'd done my own rabbit-hole search to no avail, and honestly started to think I'd switched timelines. The phrase "stood *near* the gleaming torch" isn't as explicit as I'd like, but I remember the camera pulling back as described. I'm going to believe this blur is the kid. 🙏
In high school/AP Art, our pieces were supposed to be linked, ~25 works exploring one theme. I couldn't choose & just made what I wanted (self portraits, surreal stuff) & at the end of the year my instructor looked at my submission slides and said: Nice! "Narcissism"! And I was like: Um...sure? 😳🤷♂️
Clicking on that picture was a legit jump-scare, and I knew what to expect. Just wrong. 👎👎👎
The White House could've just run with this map, maybe saved a buck at the print shop.
The stock photo Merriam-Webster uses to illustrate "upsy-daisy" goes hard, y'all.

maybe eat what you have, but write down what you'd prefer on a piece of tape on the kitchen counter 🤷♂️
Puts me in mind of Mahood, specifically The Laughing Dragon (1970), which is terrific and somewhat forgotten now.
I've said "-līved" since a Safire "On Language" column (in which, I just rediscovered, he was endorsing The Big Book of Beastly Mispronunciations by Charles Harrington Elster). But it always makes me feel a bit self-conscious, the same way I do whenever I pronounce "primer" with a short vowel.
I just went down a rabbit hole because I was 75% certain that an August Wilson play (Why did I think it was Two Trains Running?) had been sitcommed. Nope! Fabricated that one completely out of thin air. It did make me wonder about other (imaginary) ill-fated stage-to-sitcom transfers. Out in front:
