The hypocrisy is well illustrated by this paper www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.... which recognizes that more and heavier cars produce more and more toxic tyre wear particles, and then shows that the EU is not even close to their "zero pollution objective" and rather moves in the opposite direction
Just in case Europeans think that the air here is hotter than usual, do not forget that the sea surface of the entire planet is warmer than it has ever been in late June (since records began). pulse.climate.copernicus.eu
I have tried to address the root causes of the current heat wave, as well as ongoing adaptation efforts to such events, during my intervention with Al Jazeera on June 26, 2026 mediaview.aljazeera.com/video/LfXtWI...
A good conversation I had this week with Owen Jones from the UK, about the ongoing heatwave www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikvf... @owenjones.bsky.social
Thank you Timothée, I think your commentary makes many excellent points, but I particularly want to emphasize this one: "What is considered ecologically sustainable from the sole perspective of climate change might not be when looked at from a multidimensional planetary boundary perspective."

Singing "Dies Irae" from Verdi's requiem, with Scientifiques en Rebellion @scientifiquesenrebellion.fr and the fantastic Orchestre de Nouveau Monde orchestredunouveaumonde.fr was a perfect way to take notion of government and private sector inaction during the 10 years since the Paris Agreement.
So someone at #SNCF seriously thinks that filling my screen with bullshit like this is going to help my journey tomorrow. How low can the appreciation for their own product (trains) go before it hits rock bottom?

I recommended reading this book after having seen a near-final draft and I have now read it again. Fernando's account is a fantastic achievement and highly recommended reading for anyone who wants to understand why so many scientists now leave their labs and join the protests for a better future.

While we must all be concerned about the "Critically insufficient" rating of one country - we should not forget that the EU is currently rated, by the meticulous analysis of @climateactiontracker.org , as "insufficient" as well. Both policies and attitudes must change here as well.
I think you completely misunderstand, Jon. SNCF is very friendly - just look at the e-mail I received here. They clearly want to resolve the real problems of my travel experience.

Not that I was surprised to see the poor state of one of Germany's last glaciers today - but I did not know they were offering guided tours to it.

Some ecosystems face higher immediate risks from current warming than others, including virtually all coastal ecosystems, but also seagrass meadows, seaweeds and fish. 4/n
Despite all efforts, there is an unavoidable bias in any such assessment, due to insufficient resources for monitoring and risk assessment in the South and East of the Med. Basin. 3/n
Our paper aims to cover all major coastal and open marine ecosystems in the Mediterranean Basin, as well as all major drivers of change. 2/n
