Actual quote from my fic where Holmes admits he missed Watson

sensationalism."

"I missed you too. Why did you wait all those months to see me?" What a torturous, lonely time it was before the Irene Adler case.

Watson sat back against the sofa and looked at me tenderly. "When I came in March, I could see that you were pacing the room. You were at work and not on drugs at the moment. Yet when I came in, you didn't greet me effusively."

I admitted, "I thought, if I was too warm, that you'd think me desperate and needy."

"Oh, Holmes."

"The reason I was pacing was that I had that note from the King, and I wondered if I dare send you a telegram to come join me."

"Really?"

"I didn't know if you would come, though. I thought you'd forgotten me."

"No, never."

"But you came, and I could please you with my deductions. I could still charm you with a case. Then that stupid king tried to make you leave. When you just came back."

"It is both or none," he said, echoing my words from then. "And you pushed me back into the chair."

I nodded. "I needed you to stay. And you liked the case. You wanted to come back."

"Yes. And you put on quite a show at her house!"
