Is it excessive though? Between surveys, planning and drawings, foundations, construction, roadworks, etc it's pretty reasonable in my estimation It's a fab facility that will keep bikes not just dry from overhead, but safe from the humidity and offer staff/patients an alternative transport option

It's doubly insulting when the Minister for Housing comes out with stuff like this when dozens of people in Galway have been served eviction notices coinciding with these new rules and regulations. They were warned and did not care to act.

I know of at least 5 people in Galway who have been served evictions notices coinciding with this legislation. Renters are about to be taken for everything they have - the largest landlord body in the country has already confirmed as much!

Why are a Sinn Féin TD and my local councillor attending this bananas protest? There is nothing legitimately founded in this opposition - it is all nimbyism and fear-mongering. Between renewable and non-renewable resources, I know what I'd like to have beside my community.

Celebrated my birthday early with a weekend away in Schull, Co. Cork. Got lucky with the weather! Laura knows how to pick presents, that's for sure.

The tomb consists of tall, thin rocks holding up a capstone. The capstone is about 6 inches thick, 2m in diameter and 3m in length. The tomb is surrounded by grass, with a house in the background.

From a sign there: The tomb was first erected at the end of Stone Age 3000-2000BCE. Archaeologists have radiocarbon dated human bones to 2000BCE within the tomb. It was used as a mass rock by priests during the 18th Century when saying mass in churches was banned.

The Monthly Homeless Report for December 2024 records 14,864 individuals accessing emergency accommodation, a decrease of 335 (-2.2%) on November 2024.

Adopted Emi two weeks ago from Cara Rescue Dogs. Safe to say she's selling in well and we are delighted to give her her forever home. #adoptdontshop #lurcher

Gearing up to leave Berlin on our overnight train to Amsterdam.

Myself standing beside the most beautiful woman in the world, in the square where Nazi's burned over 20,000 books deemed incompatible with Nazi ideology.

The Memorial for Soviet Troops in Berlin. There is a small set of steps leading up to a multi-column monument. Atop the centre column is a bronze/copper statue of a Soviet soldier. There is golden Cyrillic writing on the front of the columns, and an inscription on the side saying "Eternal glory to heroes who fell in the struggle against the German fascist invaders for the freedom and independence of the Soviet Union."

Munich was fun, though a few things were closed/inaccessible due to maintenance or other works. Last day in Berlin tomorrow before off to Amsterdam for the last leg of our holiday.

Statement by the Tánaiste on urgent need to end blockade and allow humanitarian aid into Gaza

The Madleen was an effort to get food and medicine to the starving people of Gaza; an unarmed civilian effort in the midst of devastation and catastrophic humanitarian conditions.

But it was much more than that; it was a powerful symbol of the urgent and essential need to end the blockade on humanitarian aid.

What the flotilla has highlighted is the urgent need for humanitarian aid to get into Gaza. What has happened is another effort by the Israeli authorities to stop the entry of aid. It should not fall to any small group of civilians to get aid into Gaza.

Ireland has consistently called on Israel to lift its blockade and allow unimpeded access of humanitarian aid at scale into Gaza, in accordance with international law and humanitarian principles.

The UN and humanitarian organisations must be allowed to work independently and do their job. It is a shame on the world and international community that people are starving in Gaza.

The question we should be asking today is not a debate about the merits or not of the flotilla but how it has come to this; that the world is turning a blind eye to starving children in Gaza.
