Part of the Destructoid and Cohost diasporas. Lowercase 'g' gamer posting mostly about 🎮 Backloggd:
Oblivion horse armor. Putting aside every innovation and influence this game is responsible for w/r/t open world RPGs, i struggle to think of a more consequential decision on the business of video games over the past quarter century
Also: assassin's creed? If we're including "the 2000s" there's no way you can omit this. Love it or hate it, its open world design, climbing towers to uncover new objectives on your world map, is one of the most influential developments in the history of the medium. Full stop.
Halo 2 completely revolutionized online gaming in and out of the console space. A lot of people have forgotten that server lists were once the standard way to join MP games before bungie implemented the modern lobby and matchmaking system that is in 99% of online games in some form today.
There are so many films on my backlog i could pick from and finally watch with that time 😭
This is not a knock on mike (who is awesome) or people who play from soft games (i know many of y'all and you're cool people) but i can think of few things more miserable to me than playing a game for 40 minutes, failing 26 times, and making zero progress 😭😭😭
Change can be scary! Not everyone responds to it positively. But sometimes there are innovations that move the medium forward by building upon and ultimately replacing what came before it. I'm glad that FPS games don't play like GoldenEye anymore. We don't have to pretend that's a bad thing.
Tank controls, like so many relics from the early days of 3D game design, were a necessity born out of both a technical limitation and a future innovation that hadn't yet been discovered yet. Shinji Mikami admits that himself. www.ign.com/articles/res...
Very funny that there are still people on this website who don't seem to understand that "get the last word in before you block someone" nukes the entire thread lol All good! I managed to catch your dribble first, so let's unpack it 🧵
Ah, thank you! I was actually just transcribing some of the major quotes to post here 😅
To the listener question about "gamifying" things in your life, I made a spreadsheet to track sessions on my rowing machine that has train related goals ("levels"). This is an incredibly neurodivergent way to handle physical fitness but it's working so far! 😂
And then they turned the simpsons into a (good) GTA for a (mostly good) reason lol. The entire open world sandbox explosion of the 6th and 7th generations is a direct result of GTA. And then there's this lol GTA is even bigger now. Like way bigger!
Funny you mention that: I owned one! 😅 Sony made solid handsets, but unfortunately this was where i learned the hard way that "oh, so you just need a case for every phone now cause they're all fragile, huh?" mine got pretty beat to shit in the years i had it.
The special playstation branded ones also require a dongle! That's what's so baffling!!
