Not just his exes. On NPR’s Newsmakers interview Platner himself bragged about getting privileged access clearance after passing hate group and gang screenings. Multiple national security officials looked at his Nazi tattoo and said “not hateful”. How many others with Nazi tattoos have clearance?

Excerpt from an NPR interview between reporter Leila Fadle and Platner:

FADEL: The one thing that I heard from regular people who were trying to figure out whether they believed you, specifically about this tattoo, because you said I didn't know what it was. Like, I put a skull and bones on my chest in 2007. But you've also described yourself as a-- as a military history buff. And their question is, how did he not know if-- if he is a military history buff?

PLATNER: Because that motif I have seen on French Foreign Legion units. I have seen it on US Special Forces ODAs. I've seen it on other Marines. It's a-- that skulls and crossbones of a myriad of kind of versions are, for fairly obvious reasons, incredibly popular in combat units throughout history. So it's a-- I-- that's why. And, for the record, I re-enlisted in the United States Army. I got screened for gang and hate tattoos. I worked for the State Department. I had a top secret clearance. I was on the ambassador to Afghanistan's security team, where I was screened for gang and hate tattoos. I do get a chuckle out of the fact that suddenly everyone is an expert on this version of skull and crossbones, but for 17 years of my life, including getting screened for tattoos, never once came up.

Protests take organization, time, and energy. Not to mention academic, financial, and legal risks (especially when protesting the government’s position). Not all action is protest or demonstration, either. You can volunteer, send money, and many other things that will still help support your cause. People choose to protest when they think it might actually affect a change. The unis and other institutions showed that they're completely unwilling to bend on their fierce support for Israel. They'd rather invite a militarized police to brutalize their own students and faculty than alter investment plans. I witnessed dozens of trials in the aftermath of protests in my city. Several of whom are still on probation. In several cases the judges recommended they avoid all protests to avoid steeper penalties.

People demonstrated against Biden's policies because, get this, they hoped he might side with them. It was an election year and he (later Harris) could not risk losing any votes. They thought the party that pays lip service to human rights might, you know, back that up; even if cynically just for votes. We all know Trump is not persuadable or accountable. So people who support Palestinians wisely spend their limited energy elsewhere.

Then on top of all of it, people are also understandably more focused on the fact that the Federal government is using a secret police to kidnap and murder them and their neighbors. At this moment energy is better spent on direct action to help and protect our communities.

Nobody has “natural” waking times. Our alarms to wake us up at fixed times regardless of actual sunrise time. We stay up for hours after sunset too. Here’s the year where I live. Pink lines are my typical wake and sleep times. I always wake up after sunrise and sleep after twilight, all year.

I genuinely don’t think we would’ve gotten the thousand or so cops march to campus with long guns & grenades to arrest peaceful protesters without Biden’s encouragement last April. The next day Biden congratulated them, after one of *the* largest fascist things to occur in NYC.

$NYPD using a military tactical assault vehicle to enter a building on Colombia’s campus on 30 April 2024. A small fraction of the amount of cops that stormed campus. The police themselves trashed the building and later blamed the protestors to retroactively justify their presence.$

It’s also in contradiction to their own public style guide where they say, “We generally use the term and pronoun preferred by the person in question, unless there are editorial reasons not to do so.” So there must be a top-down editorial imposition to deliberately misgender trans people.

Transgender, or trans, is an umbrella term for a person whose gender identity differs from their sex recorded at birth. A person born male who lives as a female, would typically be described as a “transgender woman” and would take the pronoun “she”. And vice versa. We generally use the term and pronoun preferred by the person in question, unless there are editorial reasons not to do so. If that’s unknown – apply that which fits with the way the person lives publicly. If reporting on someone who is making their transition public, it may be appropriate to refer to their previous identity to help audience understanding. It may also be appropriate to refer to a transition to make sense of some stories. We should not include “intersex” or people with differences of sexual development as part of this group.

It’s been a while since I worked there. I just remembered that a hot peppermint hot cocoa is mocha and peppermint only. They replace the vanilla syrup. So this is really a peppermint mocha crème frap. Something that’s on their menu everywhere else

Gavin Newsom touting his *signature* policy: criminalizing the existence of poor people in his state, while personally physically destroying someone’s life. This was taken in 2024, but sums up his entire tenure as governor. Build 4,000 homes for 180,000 people without one and then destroy everyone who was unlucky enough to be missed by his administration.

Notably their rules (at least the newest one I could find) says “Gender Quota” and refers to “men” and “women” throughout. Under 20 years of precedent with the GRA trans women are women, so this should be a non-issue.

Elections should be carried out in the order listed in the Rule Book. At the point at which the gender quota can no longer be met, subsequent elections would not take place until new nominations for women candidates can be received.

The maximum number of men permitted in the top six positions is three. Following the election of Treasurer, three men have been elected. The Supreme Court ruling considered the hypothetical of a women’s counselling service. As a sex-segregated service, trans women are automatically excluded. If the service can show “reasonable” objection to trans men they can also exclude them. So trans men are “women” unless they look to masculine.

The R1 is a big car. So they have a lot of room to shrink for the “smaller” R3 while still being fairly large. Here’s the R1S vs an Ioniq 5, for reference. My hope is that the R2, which will also be smaller, will be around Ioniq 5 sized and then the R3 can be actually small.
