NOW READING: Andre Norton’s WEB OF THE WITCH WORLD, the second book in her popular series. Part of an EPIC garage sale find my wife purchased, tons of Norton and other old-school science fiction and fantasy, and some literary classics. 💙📚 #booksky 🪐📚
@lenniesaurus.bsky.social I was delighted to read your poem at the beginning of HOW TO KILL A WITCH: A GUIDE FOR THE PATRIARCHY. Well done! I plan to read it again when I have finished the book. 💙📚 #booksky
FINISHED READING: Robert B. Parker’s PLAYMATES. Spenser being stubborn, Hawk being Hawk. Good entry in the series. 💙📚 #booksky ⚡️📚
FINISHED READING: An adventure/fantasy novel, SHE, by H. Rider Haggard. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Haggard pretty much invented the lost civilization fantasy, and this book was a huge influence on D&D and fantasy literature. A solid read! 💙📚 #booksky 🪐📚
FINISHED READING: A fantasy collection, JIREL OF JOIRY, by C.L. Moore. Good, dream-like stuff. Nightmarish, too. I like the final tale, “Hellsgarde,” best because it broke the portal-fantasy mold used in the rest of the stories. All were worth my time, though. 💙📚 #booksky 🪐📚
I had only one can of beer with my holiday meal … #craftbeer
NOW READING: One advantage of my age is that there are many, many books I enjoyed long ago, and it is now time to revisit. About to start SHE, by H. Rider Haggard. 💙📚 #booksky 🪐📚
FINISHED READING: A detective novel, THE ZEBRA-STRIPED HEARSE, by Ross MacDonald. A strong entry in his Lew Archer series. 💙📚 #booksky ⚡️📚
PRO TIP: Always take a book when you’re in a waiting room. 💙📚 #booksky ⚡️📚
I am working on a sword-and-sorcery collection. Some short story reprints, some brand new material. #booksky 🪐📚
I tried to read I, THE JURY, by Mickey Spillane. I write detective novels, I know the Mike Hammer books are hugely popular, but … no. Jesus Christ, no. 💙📚 #booksky ⚡️📚
FINISHED READING: A very strong witch novel, THE BEWITCHING, by @silviamg.bsky.social … slow burn, with three intertwined stories all coming together by the end. Very well done! 💙📚 #booksky 🩸📚
Early Fathers Day swag from the used bookstore, courtesy of my kid. Which should I read first? 💙📚 #booksky ⚡️📚
I read “WE, THE MARAUDERS” by Robert Silverberg. Solid story about corporate evil, manipulating opinion, fascist overreach. Written in the 50’s, but illuminating for today. Good science fiction. Below is a cover from the book, but I read it as part of the Belmont double.
NOW READING: Part of a huge yard sale haul my wife made, A PAIR FROM SPACE. Two short science-fiction novels. I haven’t decided which to read first. I like both authors. 💙📚 #booksky 🪐📚
First of the wild daylilies to bloom on our property this year. The many varieties in our gardens will begin blooming in a week or so.
NOW READING; I have been looking forward to this one, THE EDGE OF SPACE-TIME, by @chanda.blacksky.app
FINISHED READING: Andre Norton’s WITCH WORLD. What a blast! Blend of fantasy and weird science, sets the stage for more to follow. 💙📚 #booksky 🪐📚
Very cool! Check out all the Norton books in this yard sale score my wife made this weekend. Which have you read?
NOW READING: The first book in Andre Norton’s WITCH WORLD series. I have read some later novels and short stories in this series, but I don’t think I’ve read this one. If I did, it was ages ago. 💙📚 #booksky 🪐📚
Finished reading OUT ON TNE CUTTING EDGE, as I read Lawrence Block’s series about sort-of private investigator Matt Scudder. 💙📚 #booksky ⚡️📚
HUMAN NATURE by @drkatemarvel.bsky.social is a stunningly good read. Informative, scary, witty, funny, sad … and very human. With so much in the news today, climate change gets buried among topics we need to think about, and do something about. This book shows why it matters. 💙📚 #booksky
FINISHED READING: A religious-themed science fiction anthology, OTHER WORLDS, OTHER GODS, edited by Mayo Mohs. Despite the title, most of these stories are based on Earthly religions. Interesting stuff. 💙📚 #booksky 🪐📚
Taking a break from yard work while batteries recharge — mine and the Ryobi mower’s. Enjoying a pale ale and some Grateful Dead tunes on my portable speaker.
FINISHED READING: Robert B. Parker’s CRIMSON JOY. A departure from formula in this series, and it leaned into a pet peeve of mine (bad guy makes it personal against hero and his loved ones) but I enjoyed it. 💙📚 #booksky ⚡️📚
A beer called “Deviant Offspring” seems appropriate when writing sword-and-sorcery, don’t you think? #writingcommunity #writerlife #booksky
I only wrote about 1,000 words tonight on a balls-to-the-walls sword-and-sorcery story, but I wrote, and any progress is progress. #writingcommunity #amwriting
“Steve Goble has written a real page-turner with a great cast of well-rounded, believable, and interesting characters.” - San Francisco Book Review of GO FIND DADDY 💙📚 #booksky ⚡️📚
