If you have to put up a sign like this in your hotel bathroom, what you have is not a usage problem. You have a design problem. The fix is not a sticker. It's designing a bathroom that is usable by people with all levels of mobility.

Finally cool enough in the morning for our first café breakfast in the new neighborhood! We haven't really been able to do this for the last two years. Our old hood was nice, but didn't have a close enough café. Now we have at least six options within two blocks!

I will again mention that there is effectively no domestic air conditioning in this country. This is a VERY long stretch for these temps, even with the reasonable overnight lows. Buildings' thermal inertia will at first help, but then eventually trap the heat indoors.

No One Leaves Clean (2026) - Eileen Noise. This is a project between Marco, an Italian bassist who did basically all of the music and Sophie, an American (I think) singer. Grunge-influenced hard rock. The music's fairly typical post-grunge imo (POD, Staind, etc), but the vocalist is very good.

Victory Garden (2026) - Young the Giant. I didn't like their previous album, American Bollywood. It was a bit more experimental and just didn't grab me. First time listening to this one; it appears to move back more toward their pop-rock roots. Seems fine. This is never going to be a favorite band.

The Mountain (2026) - Gorillaz. This is literally my first time listening to this album. It uh … sounds like Gorillaz? Like at this point you kind of know what you're getting. A ton of guest stars. Damon Albarn doing Damon Albarn things. Poppy electronica. I'm maybe a touch burned out on this band.

Just to add to the "writers don't need AI to give artists a brief" discourse, here is the single sample sketch I sent to Alyssa, and here is the amazing cover she produced for POSSESSED ... Artists will figure it out. In fact, it's usually better if you DON'T give them too specific direction.

Matthias has been obsessed with demonology since his encounter with a possessed woman when he was in his twenties. He has spent three decades researching, studying, and searching for arcane knowledge. Though he hides it well, he has also become unstable, dangerous, and obsessed with punishing the people of Miami.

Older than he seems, and much scarier than Shannon realizes, Matthias has spent his entire life waiting for the opportunity to bond with a demon. When Amber accidentally takes that opportunity from him, he is crestfallen and enraged. Unsure what, exactly, prevented the thing he considers his birthright, and unwilling to admit to any of his devotees that the procedure didn't work, he buys time with other magic while attempting to suss out what went wrong.

As time drags on, and he grows more desperate, Matthias begins to consider other, more terrible actions to get what he wants.

He will bring Miami to its knees, and anyone who stands in his way had better have help.

“I used to be like you,” he said. “Or perhaps more like Dylan. I was young and stupid, and while I wanted to believe, I’d never been shown anything to believe in, so I mostly focused on getting drunk and getting laid. I was never in a group like our family, but off and on I met people who believed. Most of them were hopeless. All of them, until Cassandra. She believed, but that wasn’t all of it. She was also real in a way the others weren’t. It was like all the other people I’d met were fuzzy, indistinct shadows and she was the only person I’d ever known who was a full part of the world. She glowed.”

He paused and looked away, the expression on his face not what Amber had expected. There was no nostalgia there. In fact, he looked a little sick.

There were gasps as it happened, but before anyone could say anything, a single wide rope of fire launched itself along the table toward Matthias. It leapt the gap, even as he continued chanting, his voice now a roar, and hit him square in the chest. In the next instant, his entire body went up in flames.

Next to Amber, Shannon’s gasp turned into a cry of terror, and she stepped forward, as if there was anything she was going to be able to do for Matthias other than join him in burning to death. It was already way too late for stop, drop, and roll. The guy was a walking inferno. Amber pulled on Shannon’s shoulders and, when that didn’t work, Dylan reached out and grabbed her arms. Everyone else remained rooted to their spots.

“Let me go!” Shannon shouted, struggling against Dylan’s grip.

“Dude, not a fuckin’ chance,” Dylan said, and his voice was such an odd combination of baffled shock and common sense that Amber burst out laughing.

Hello,

It has recently come to my attention that Proton is sponsoring French far-right "influencers" on YouTube. This is utterly unacceptable. Why are you giving money to fascist, racist hate-mongers?

As an immigrant in France myself, I am lucky to not have to deal with the racism (I'm a white American) but I still see and hear the things that immigrants from other parts of the globe have to put up with here. It's revolting to me that any portion of the money I'm paying to Proton annually for my two different plans is going to further these divisive voices.

This needs to be addressed speedily and with nothing short of apology and a concrete plan for doing better. Otherwise I and many others are going to migrate from Proton, just as we migrated from Google when their company practices became unsupportable.

Normal Isn't (2026) - Puscifer. I am listening to this album for the first time as I type this! It's still adhering to what's becoming kind of the standard pseudo-electronica Puscifer formula at this point, but it's at least less soporific than their previous release. There's more going on.

Tenterhooks (2026) - Silversun Pickups. We've reached this year. Truth is, I haven't listened to this or any 2026 album much, because I've been busy doing this thread! Some catchy tunes on this one (Nikki's Au Revoir Reservoir is a banger). Some weird rhythm choices. Needs more listens to hook me.

It's a painting, starting brown at the bottom and then moving to yellow-orange at the top, albeit not in a smooth gradient. In the brown section is what looks like a wood burning illustration of mountains and fir trees. Above that we move into the yellow-orange section, which looks like a watercolor panting, with bands of umbers blending into the more yellow tones. In the center is what resembles a smoothed-over mountain, long eroded, but it's formed entirely with shades of pink, and slight highlights of light blue. Here are there are scattered small rectangular shapes, and shapes that look like slightly distorted upside-down "U"s. At the bottom in which sans-serif font are the words "SILVERSUN PICKUPS" and below them, in larger, gold-foil serif font the word "TENTERHOOKS" - the "Tenter" part is slightly larger than the "Hooks" part, and the cross bars on both "T"s extend further on the right than on the left.

The Rest of the Story (2025) - Big Wreck. This album has the distinction of having the first and only Big Wreck song I've ever genuinely hated on it: Holy Roller, a Van Halen tribute. I do not like Van Halen. Other than that, the album's solid. I feel like Big Wreck could slow their pace a bit tho.
