Here I am with Sidney, (the mastermind behind #ArtNightLA), at my show this past Thursday.
I have two paintings in a show this evening. I didn't post about it. (BS isn't the best social media for the art announcement.) These are the two paintings displayed at Red Bird for Art Night. 114 East 2nd St. DTLA.
Just because you're not on Instagram, doesn't mean you're not on Instagram. Thank you friends @ Blex_Media and everyone who texted me this link. www.instagram.com/p/DabqY3jEar...
If anyone needs a "Listen to Black Women" tee. www.etsy.com/listing/8519...
The BEST performance in #DisclosureDay was by Courtney Grace. Seriously. Thinking about it gives me chills. Great talent in the entire film, but she grounds the narrative like no one else. Her IMDB: www.imdb.com/name/nm15031...
Front page of the NY Times. I had to take a screenshot because I didn't believe it.
I love this quote by Ira Glass. I think about it often. "But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer." <- Read the whole quote but this I love.
Who wants good news? I SOLD A PAINTING!!! I love my work and love to see them find their forever homes. "The Girls of Summer". 36"x48". Oil. For those who came to my show, this wasn't in the exhibit. The person came to the show, and bought a different piece on my website. cybelartstudio.com
Happy Juneteenth. I'm waiting for the film about Eugene Goodman. Kthx. I've never watched the video of his heroism until just now. See link below. www.cbsnews.com/news/eugene-...
I was cleaning my closet and found these. Decades ago, I stole them from my Mom's office. I treasure them. Kids don't know how easy they have it.
For my California friends who haven't made it to my art exhibit yet, The Braly Gallery is doing something special this Saturday. "Third Saturdays at The Braly" June 20th. 6pm - 9pm. Art, Drinks, Snacks & Laughs 408 S Spring St DTLA (same building as 126 West 4th) bsky.app/profile/cybe...
Me. At the first club after Game 5. Do I fly to NYC this week for the parade?!!!
My C Span just went to SMPTE Color Bars with Tone which Ive not seen in decades. #ScaffoldWatch (Including a screenshot in case the kids don’t know)
Just saw this show at The Getty. Its phenomenal. Very well curated. Many images I've not seen before. The last day is June 14th. Go if you can. Free. "Photography and the Black Arts Movement, 1955–1985" www.getty.edu/exhibitions/...
Two candid snaps of me from last week's opening. I love them. Taken by photog for the gallery. Being introduced as the artist vs the one who supports the artist's vision (yes DPs are artists but its different) has been a mind altering experience.
I stole this off of Substack: "Donald Trump shows up at game 3 and the Knicks lose. Wu-Tang performs at the half of game 4 and the Knicks complete the largest comeback victory in NBA Finals history. The lesson: Presidents are temporary. Wu-Tang is forever."
Often the cinematography and production design in #MotelDestino remind me of #AlexWebb photos
I watched #WeddingInWhite (1972) by William Fruet on Criterion last night. It stars a very young Carol Kane and Don Pleasence. He's known for many horror films. This is a horror in its own way. The film really messed with my sleep. #nfotd www.imdb.com/title/tt0069...
Here I am with Sidney Brocious, the brains behind #DTLAArtNight. She's incredible. If you are still on Instagram, here are more photos and videos from my art opening. The crowd turn out was amazing. www.instagram.com/dtlaartnight/
Maybe there isn’t a direct connection but I’d love the discourse nonetheless.
Watching a fav #ComfortHorror: Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) on my birthday eve. Ive prob seen it over 20 times & do NOT remember Duvall as a priest at the beginning. We’re long overdue a Body Snatchers remake. But it must be written very well. Its about psychological terror not jump scares
I wrote this to give my art some context. "The paintings presented here are from three different series that I am working on. The first focuses on the space that adolescent girls occupy..." cybelartstudio.com/show/cybel-a...
Look at all of the ASC Cinematographers on my panel today. It's going to be a great conversation.
Sony unveiled their 65mm Rialto at the ASC Clubhouse and it was the first time in a while that I was ecstatic about new camera technology. 65mm sensor and its ridiculously light weight. I'm also super charged about Zeiss' new anamorphic lenses with built in motors. (also #GoKnicks!)
Yesterday was Installation Day. Its a different experience seeing my art "out in the wild" vs inside my apartment.
Official invite to my art show This Thursday, June 4th. The Braly Gallery 126 West 4th DTLA. 6-10p Also, birthday month kick off. Exhibit is part of DTLA Art Night. Celebrating its 3rd year. In partnership with The Broad, MOCA & Grand Performances. On display for the month of June.
