I have played a few, so here goes the first comment: "A Little Wordy" is an overproduced and quite simple word game for 2 players, where both get some letters and form a difficult-to-guess word, then hide it and scramble all letters. 1/2

Now that I'm finally home, I started sorting through the pile of old and new board games and TTRPGs that arrived while I was in Italy or that I picked up there. There's a lot to review, but I'm pretty excited about getting into some of these games! So expect some thoughts in the coming weeks.

I had missed the beautiful lakes and woods around my Connecticut house. And the many many fireflies that I just enjoyed in the yard and beyond. Fireflies really are the best.

New personal milestone unlocked: two conferences in the same week, on different continents. AATI in Rome, Italy and Play Make Learn in Madison, WI, US. ... Yeah. I don't recommend it, friends. Both conferences were amazing, but trust me, don't do it.

We had a great time creating games from found objects: we made a competitive hockey/golf game using zip ties called "garbache" and a collaborative game of flipping the garbage bag until a paper ball gets into the cup!

Last day in Rome and in Italy for this summer: we went to Galleria Borghese. I am not sure why I missed it in my past visits to Rome. It instantly became one of my favorite museums! The Bernini marbles are breathtaking. And so much Caravaggio. And so much more. Here's a sample.

Capitoline Museums in Rome. Just incredible - some of the pieces took our breath away, for their sheer size and beauty. Like the city around them, there is so much hete that it all becomes a bit overwhelming. But still incredible stuff, go visit them if you have the chance.

We are staying in Prati, in the northern part of the city centre. It is a lovely space near the Vatican and the Italian Supreme Court (Corte Costituzionale), which is housed in a gorgeous building (pic below). And I just love that Romans call this "Palazzaccio" or 'bad palace" 😆

In Rome for a conference on Italian studies. As always, I find this city magnificent but overwhelming. Even the conference location is a XVII century palace with frescoes. I am thankful for street art, the "nasoni" fountains with fresh water everywhere, people watching and the myriad cafes.

I am happy to have received "Play Unsafe" by @grahamwalmsley.bsky.social on our last day in Verona! It is a lovely booklet that I'll read on the plane! 😀 But a silly €7.50 custom tax for non-EU goods on top of already expensive shipping from the UK makes physical copies really unsustainable. 🫠🥲

We found a beautiful gorge near Verona, with gorgeous rock formations and so many salamanders! Quite a lovely find for the future. Since we are about to head to Rome and then back to the US. Vajo Borago, we shall be back!
