New drought map is now out, and as expected, things are worse. The entire SE, from south TX up through WV and all along the eastern seaboard up to ME is 100% in drought. My state of #NCwx has gotten further into Extreme Drought. droughtmonitor.unl.edu/CurrentMap.a...

#NoKings #Asheville This was the most "Asheville" sign I saw today at the protest/march. A very large crowd, so pleased to be a part of it. I'll bet darth would appreciate this sign, but they're never here on weekends...

When he was elected in 2016 but before taking office, I sent him the attached set of items, thinking they might help him understand his job. I imagine if I did it today I'd be arrested.

A listing of an Amazon order, containing "Ethics for Dummies," a guide to MLK for children, a hijab, a pride flag, some tampax and a bottle of aspirin. Each reflected an area of the President's job I thought he would need help with (but clearly did not cover everything exaustively.)

I sent it to Trump tower in NYC.

It was delivered.

Happy New Year to all, and a warm start to the end of your week. A thank you to @profsteed.bsky.social for this cool mug from the bad place, some years ago. Engineer, not attorney, but I lurked and liked it. Hike and a cold breakfast after.

We saw this mixed media/oil painting by Mark Bettis at his gallery in the RAD here in Asheville, and it came home with us. It's called "Internal Light" and it glows above our fireplace now, bringing its gorgeous colors to our home even in winter.

A very colorful painting of the mountains of Western North Carolina, the central section done in golds and oranges, the outer areas in blues, with a vigorous sky in the background, indicating a coming storm, and the light of the sun being crowded out soon by clouds.

It's just so beautiful.

Challenge: post your last photo taken in DC to show what a hell-hole it is. The "Thinker on a Rock" is a sculpture by Barry Flanagan and resides in the National Gallery of Art's Sculpture Garden. ( This was from 2011 and is probably not my last picture but one I could find.)
