Mental health, military, mudlarking and other malarkey. Comedy jokes for the new age of descent.
Miriam Rodrigues-Pereira (z”l), one of the last #WWII #BletchleyPark codebreakers, passed away on 4 August aged 104. She also worked on Op MINCEMEAT & went on to serve in the Foreign Office & GCHQ. As well as being an historian & archivist for the Sephardi Jewish community. #thegreatestgeneration
New episode of For Honour’s Sake, with Neville Silver, the Jewish community’s last #KoreanWar veteran. We talked about his #RoyalArtillery soundranging operations just short of the frontline; and after demob, supervising construction of Britain’s first motorways. www.buzzsprout.com/2423937/epis...
Why not start the week with the latest episode of For Honour’s Sake? Our guest is East End boy Monty Goldstein, 102 this year, talking about surviving the Blitz, serving as a gunner and driver with the #RoyalArtillery during #WWII, and his later career in the schmutter trade.
There’s a radio advert at the moment for a bathroom company in which they claim not to install showers but rather…“sh-wow-ers!”
I have FOUND it! After years of searching. Finally. The Worst Thing In The World Ever:
Mark covered growing up amid the rise of antisemitism, his eagerness to join the war effort at 19, serving from 1941, and his accolade-full photographer career after demob. He passed on 14 April, a month after we recorded. The new series is dedicated to his memory, may it be as a blessing. 2/2
Ep1/S2 of For Honour’s Sake is out: www.buzzsprout.com/2423937/epis... Mark Gerson served as an RAF radio operator and mechanic in WWII, flying in support of the British Liberation Army as it freed France, the Low Lands, and on into Germany. For him, all the way to the gates of Buchenwald. 1/2
I signed up for this. Complete con. Lazy blighter’s not running a marathon, riding a unicycle to John O’Groats, or even sitting in a bath of beans, or anything. Total grift.
The Thames smelled like the sea this morning, giving a Proustian rush back to childhood holidays. But that’s about all she gave me. Not very generous today other than a fragment of patterned pipe bowl, a chunk of Georgian glass washed iridescent by her waters, and a Boris Bike. #mudlarking
