Here's your Studio Dog update for this week. I think this guy likes synthesizers as much as I do!
My piano book is back in stock at the OMOCAT store for those of you that asked. And that’s a lot of ppl!
New synth day! Roland V-Stage 76 as I’ve almost always used stage boards as my main as more of a performer-type composer. Insanely amazing key action, the first of its type!
Hell yeah! Four hours later and we’re back in business. Here is next to his beloved little brother, the EX5R. The brand new black screen looks amazing, the battery works perfectly, I cleaned out all the buttons and their functionality is way better too! Yay!
Some of the brutal shit I had to do: move diodes so that the aftermarket screen would work in the space, pull out resistors and replace them with other ones, scrape out 20+ year-old foam and replace, and many other things
Second thing is a big one: it’s been so long that screens are no longer made. Mine had faded so this new guy will go in, tho it’s some detailed work.
First thing: replacing the old perma battery with this little case where I can easily replace the battery later. Also LOL Daiso battery.
Anyone that knows me knows that I love to use old synthesizers in my work. But maintenance is part of the territory, and so today my beloved Yamaha TG77 goes in for surgery. It’s from 1990 but I still use it nearly every week!
After years of hunting for a good clean, working one, I finally found one of my most wanted old synths, the Yamaha TQ5. This masterpiece of late 80s design (from the famed Frog Design) is a 4op FM synth that sounds so nostalgic. I made this little demo you hear in the video with it! It's so cool! 🥹
I can already tell you right now: This game is 100% worth the purchase on the quality of the music alone. Super inspired writing, beautiful melodic sense, exceptional execution. I am instantly a fan of Morotani and Nakamachi.
Happy International Corgi Day to my little friend, CoCo Ichibanya, as well as all the other corgis out there!
Timelapse of amazing villas in the Kobe mountains we have for relaxing after BitSummit, played at 2x because they are huge. Stick around for the surprise ending 😆 Also note the thermal rooms and the on-tap onsen!
During BitSummit I stayed in a house on the Kamo River and just enjoyed nature and people watched and I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed it. Here are a few nice moments I’d like to share in this thread:
Last night: private dining, sukiyaki right on the river. It was delicious!
Insanely beautiful dinner last night with friends and colleagues in Kyoto.
Stupidly amazing house on the river in Kyoto, right next to all the action. Beautiful house and a wonderful place to stay during BitSummit — a quick tour of just some of it but note the Kiyomizu view!
