While I don't necessarily disagree that Hartel might just want to get back to Europe, I follow both leagues and I think FB guy is correct that 2.Bundesliga is better than MLS. (And I say this as an STL City fan from Southern Illinois, who, admittedly, is an even bigger FC Heidenheim fan.)
Me "watching" FC Heidenheim's opening match in the 2.Bundesliga season (since the DFB somehow decided not to arrange to have 2.Bundesliga matches available for US-based fans to watch this year).
I'm looking up some potential hikes in Switzerland to go on tomorrow, but given that I ate lettuce in Michigan less than two weeks ago, I think this path would just be tempting fate.

I took these photos just a few hours apart yesterday. One photo shows the location where Abraham Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address. The other shows how Donald Trump desecrated the Lincoln Memorial with his UFC nonsense. Quite the juxtaposition.
If you look across the lake over into Michigan and squint your eyes real hard, you might be able to see me wearing one of my FC Heidenheim trikots. (Although I will be hoping that the US plays a good match.)
Not all economics professors get to enjoy a Kid Cudi concert from the comfort of their office. (My sons were at the concert and so I worked late so I could give them and one of neighbor kids a ride home.)
On a plane 10,000 meters in the sky, watching FC Heidenheim still hanging on to a tiny bit of hope of not getting relegated by defeating Union 3-1. Both of these things seem like minor miracles. 🙂

Not overly thrilled about the coincidence that this letter came to my teenager on the same day that Trump will give a speech on Iran.
Given my wife is Swiss, Trump announcing 39% tariffs on Switzerland on Switzerland's National Holiday is one thing that jumps out to me personally as being ridiculously absurd.
Let's just say that someone violated social norms in the faculty lounge on Monday and Tuesday.

I understand your sentiment and I agree that many things are getting a lot worse (and rather quickly). Still, it brings me at least a little comfort to know that some important things have gotten better for many billions of people around the world. Graphs are from the excellent ourworldindata.org

Exactly 81 years ago, my great-uncle Oliver Weissert "celebrated" Christmas by fighting in a skirmish in the small town of Verdenne, Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge. (He was KIA two months later a little bit north of Aachen.)
