On my way to the BSLS at @unistrathclyde.bsky.social - going to need a few of these if we're to keep up the karaoke traditions this evening! And the morning after I'll be delivering an epitaph for the coach dog... @thebsls.bsky.social
I felt like I should check in with my dormant LinkedIn page and I just saw this and I am out of there for another year
Feeling quite English today as I collect my Yorkshire Tea from a gallery in Stavanger who agreed to order in extra from their supplier @yorkshiretea.bsky.social Thanks Stavanger Kunstmuseum!
Can someone smarter and more Joycean than me explain this joke please? Preferably without judgement but if that's the price to pay.... @modernistudies.bsky.social
I just submitted an ERC Starting Grant application, so I get to drink a beer from the special shelf. #numb #envhum #OneStepCloserToTheHedge
"Israel has committed genocide in Gaza, says UN commission of inquiry" - in @theguardian.com today
Congratulations to Markus Eldegard Mindrebø @markusmindrebo.bsky.social on the official launch of his book Women, Politics, and Social Networks in the Sagas of Norwegian Kings with De Guyter! I know a lot more about Gunnhild than I did yesterday!
Great day out with the @greenhouseuis.net on Kvitsøy today, talking about what's working, how we can improve the Greenhouse, and what's ahead. Also having fun with everyone at the Lobster Museum and Hatchery! 🦞 🦞 🦞 (I did buy a t-shirt). #envhum #lobstersky
I kind of missed my daily updates (conferencing with a child is very different!) but one of many other highlights from ASLE-UKI Galway was hearing Richard Kerridge's short story 'Flooded'
ASLE-UKI Conference in Galway! Day 0: Trip around Conamorra national Park Day 1: Keynote from Dr Nessa Cronin: "Radical Hope in Dark Times" and my talk on the Crude Tunes panel about boll weevils and Black American automobility in 1930s blues tunes
Can someone who knows more about dogs than me confirm what breed the dog in this picture is? Looks a bit Shiba-y but not sure (I think this is New York City in 1916, as featured in Vanity Fair. Its for a thing. #dogs #dogsky #dogopolis #envhum
One positive of being very vocal about the type of tea I like to drink during lectures and seminars. #academicsky #envhum
The legacy of this Labour party will be facilitating genocide and criminalising peaceful protest. Fuck them. #yourparty
Such a thoughtful parting gift from the Indigenous Literature Collection at Amherst College, combining Indigenous road narratives and pets in cars in a book I can read to my daughter!
Today the Summer School class visiting the Eric Carle museum of picture book art. It was genuinely quite a moving experience, from the original Very Hungry Caterpillar artworks to an exhib on children's books which have been banned in certain states (Florida) simply for representing other cultures.
My talk at the Amherst College Summer Bridge school aimed to show incoming first year students that archives and archivists shouldn't be feared, and was not ruined by the fake taxidermy fish in the corner (an April fool's side hobby of Emily Dickinson's).
So Lee Francis IV is very cool! Super engaging talk on the background to Red Planet books and A Tribe Called Geek - showcasing Indigenous comic book authors and artists and explaining the power of "nerditry" in Native resistance.
Definitely in Amherst...not dissimilar from Emily Dickinson's room
Every time I visit Stavanger airport, I get chance to reflect on how hard the Wren has been mugged off with it's scientific name. #envhum #troglodytestroglodytes
