Too Funny by Danielle Grace

Well, there's laugh-out-loud funny
Then there's odd, peculiar, or strange
One thing we can agree on is
This funny word has range
You can use it quite sarcastically
To mean not funny at all
You can even hit your funny bone
It doesn't mean you'll have a ball
Don't be deceived by funny money
My friend, that kind is all fake
But I still prefer the hilarity
that ensues until my belly aches.

Face pressed to the floor I pray
For absolution night and day
Begging for a sense of peace
That world suffering might cease

Upon my knees I ask for rest
And that the least of us be blessed
Though now I stand on shaky faith
Evil shall be consigned to waste

I see proliferations of such greed
While I'm reduced to mustard seeds
And yet I still continue on
With hope that someone listens yon.

In your eyes, I see it there—
Through blood it flows
So sharp I can taste it
Every bit of IT grows
Enveloping your being
Driving you to dizzying heights
Calling back to lovers
And ancestors of your birthright
Rising to devour knowledge
Rich in essence unopposed
Lapping at experience exposed
Along paths born from nothingness
Your appetites are wildness
Existing in untapped forms
For now—contained—
But you should never be
One iota ashamed
To let that power sprout
Not by fear, nor doubt
In the end—
Hunger will win out!

Between them, blinks go by
I consider them before I lie
—maybe not, then cry

Whatever shall I wear?
How should I style my hair?
—or what should I procure, if bare?

From some, consequences scatter
Even the tiniest ones matter
—in a tapestry or batter

Big ones decide fate of others
Yes or noes may gather lovers
—depending upon one's druthers

Ultimately it is our choices
That quantify remembered voices
—consider them more carefully.

Are masked as heroes in murder scams
No justice levied for fallen victims

Differences: A poem by Danielle Grace.

There are facts that some are now recognizing
Which I've known all my life,
The color of one's skin
can cause entire races public strife;

The gender of a birth can suddenly void one's proven expertise,
And if you change that gender some think your sense has ceased;

People call you out of your name for loving differently than religious laws,
Some just assume you are not equal if your views don't mesh in voting stalls;

People put you into foreign boxes when your moxie inspires movements,
So many try to tear you down through violence,
If peaceful protest yields improvements.

Dear Santa,

I will never be
The one content
To simply sit upon your knee.

I demand your attention
In every possible universe—
I am a star around which
worlds revolve in awe
And lesser beings burn.

Do not ask me to give time
to the next thing stood in line;
Ask only what I desire
For, the cosmos cannot rest
until I deem it so.

I mean to devour
all your power, so know...
I can never be content
To simply sit upon your knee.

Reflection

Rejoice in life and happiness
The ringing of every bell
Resounds to the tympanic essence
That echoes through your mind

Forget the thoughts of innocence
Each new birth renews its meaning
Permits melodic pureness to fade
Forever to disintegrate in time

The voices call a thousand times
But what fate is to capture the sound
Of reason and listen to hear
The sweet soprano of their harmonic song

The heart twines with a million strings
Plucked into a blazing symphony
The rapturous calliope lost in soft
Caresses of beauty and delight

Release the tone of vibrance
Cry out to your own desires
The orchestra of Passion’s slaves
bow low in pain and wondrous pleasure

Let the music sweep you away
into the deepest depths of your soul
know yourself in the intimacies
Of a life inside these mirrored walls.
