A Manifesto for Community Management at Research and Knowledge Organisations I got together with some friends across NL and wrote this a couple years ago. It remains a piece of writing that I think is quite nice and true. doi.org/10.53962/k06...

A single sheet document that states: "Research and Knowledge Organisations are impactful primarily through their capacity to bring people together. Therefore, Community is crucial to the generative function and success of Research and Knowledge Organisations. And so, Community formation and maintenance, as undertaken by Community Managers, is a consequential form of labour within Research and Knowledge Organisations.

Herein we set out to define Community in the context of Research and Knowledge Institutions, identify the values and practices we promote in people undertaking the work of Community Management, and
surface key outcomes in the development of Community."

The other thing I get to do, which continues the work I started back in Austin, is explore how events bring about initiatives, which in turn bring about events, and so on in a generative progression. How we start this at a small-scale is in the write-up above and here is what builds from that forum

In 2011, a uniquely beautiful cloud appeared over Central Texas. For awhile, everyone in Austin went online to share photos & stories about this cloud. Folks then made websites to collect them. What I'm saying is there are moments where we know how to use the internet, and I hope we are in one now.
