I bought my C64 on in 1986, on the strength of games like Dinky Doo and Falcon Patrol. Barely a couple of years later, with the addition of a disk drive I was playing near 16-bit quality games like Rocket Ranger on it. One of the many reasons I love this machine so much.
The boat jump in Last Ninja 2 was more stressful than the stepping stones in The Last Ninja. Change my mind.
New FREEZE64 just landed, thanks Vinny! For the record, I was and always will be a big fan of Labyrinth. May all your elephants be adumbrated. 👍
A meerkat's head is about the size of a lemon, so what the hell is going on here? Are these things meant to be human sized? I mean, I can cope with them speaking English, wearing smoking jackets and going to the cinema, but now I don't know what to think.
Hey Meta, here's an idea: add a "Mouthbreather" reaction to Facebook. This automatically replaces the "HaHa" reaction for any user who reacts "HaHa" to a significant number of serious posts about medical science, climate change or geopolitical crises. 👍
Commodore User were certainly impressed by Championship Wrestling. Despite being a sports game from Epyx, I thought this one was a bit of a dud. A ton of moves that do next to nothing and 'finishers' that the other guy kicks out from, so no scope for actual wrestling. Slap, slap, slap, pin. Next! 😐
I have this in my (modest) collection. What I find extraordinary is how the tape-based, 64-compatible 'proper' sequel is so much better again than this.
It never ceases to amaze me how eBay keeps getting worse, considering how much money they make and how little the site has ever needed to change. Look how it sorts the date of manufacture, for f@#!'s sake.
Installed it in my silver case. I do love a custom / one-of-kind vintage computer, but some are a bit OTT and I include my purple breadbin in that. There's a sweet spot, and for me this one has hit it. 😀
My C64 Ultimate just got er, ultimat-er. Function keys replaced with grey ones from CBMSTUFF, looks identical to my original breadbin now.
It's a FREEZE64 Friday! As ever, thank you Vinny and team. The weekend is off to a great start. 😀
Is it my imagination, or does RFK Jr. look more like this guy every time we see him?
Decluttering my office. This was the first one of these I printed after Perifractic approved the layout. Am I allowed to throw it out? Or should it be considered an important piece of Commodore history? 😄
Why is it I can cut like a laser with a hand saw, but whenever I try to use a jigsaw it ends up looking like the Welsh border? 🪚🤪
Impossible Mission trilogy. Still feels weird calling it that. IM III is a superb game, I can't imagine anything they could have done to make it any better. Top marks! 👍
This here solar battery isn't working very well so far. Last night it pulled all of our consumption from the battery, as expected. Tonight, it's all coming from the grid even though the battery is fully charged. 😵💫❓
Solar battery installation tomorrow. Here's what it's going to look like (kind of).
Freaky orange moon right now, looks like the sun is coming up at 12:30 AM.
"Nice try Floyd, but you were designed for scrubbing and scrubbing is what you shall do."
Had a nice few days in Wales with the family. Fresh air, stunning views and reading FREEZE64 on the beach. Perfect! 🙂
Here's the kicker, when the sequel was eventually released on the 64, it was (in my opinion at the time) better than the SMS version of Double Dragon. So I sold my Master System and used the money to buy a disk drive, so I was all-in on the C64 once again. Hurrah!
This led directly to my interest in the SEGA Master System, with its notably better conversions of arcade games. I eventually got one, but I kept my 64, which turned out for the best as the SMS version of Double Dragon was also quite poor. Nothing like as bad as the C64 version though.
Re-reading 64 Nightmares by the brilliant @merman1974.bsky.social, now that I have a physical copy (thanks Andrew!) Double Dragon is a notable stinker, because it was my favourite arcade game. Its release marked the first time I felt disadvantaged owning a C64, and the need to upgrade my computer.
New FREEZE64 has landed! Impossible Mission III review, and Julian is getting into the crap releases from the era in which I bought most of my C64 games. Can't wait to dig into this one. 👓📖 @freeze64.bsky.social
