ARC Dark Matter Centre
@darkmatteraus
The ARC Centre of Excellence for Dark Matter Particle Physics brings together experts from across Australia and internationally to unlock the secrets of dark matter and foster the science and engineering leaders of the future.
The strongest yet constraints have been placed on certain rare decays of subatomic particles, narrowing the window for where new "hidden" particles could be lurking,. A data analysis from BELLE II found no evidence of new particles in channels studied-valuable information in the dark matter hunt!🧪
Tune in to ABC Wimmera at 8.45am tomorrow morning to hear Kim Mintern-Lane talk about how you can virtually tour the Stawell Underground Physics Laboratory, and upcoming opportunities to follow the progress of the SABRE South dark matter experiment. 🧪
What a pleasure it is to see young faces light up with the joy of science! We enjoyed meeting a future generation of scientists and talking about #darkmatter at the Stawell Easter Extravaganza. 🧪
What is the collective noun for physicists? An impressive nucleus(?!) gathered in Stawell last week to tour the Stawell Underground Physics Lab and discuss the strategy behind our #darkmatter research. It was exciting to host scientists from around the world in this small Victorian town. 🧪
See what has been happening in the Stawell Underground Physics Laboratory lately - we've been doing some heavy lifting! 💪 In coming videos, scientists will explain the equipment that has arrived in the lab and how it will support the SABRE South #darkmatter experiment. 🧪
On International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we asked the #WomenOfDarkMatter what inspired them to pursue their studies in physics. 🧪
If you're up early tomorrow, you can catch Zuzana Slavkovska talking to ABC Canberra at 6.45am about #darkmatter and women in STEM on @unesco.org's International Day of Women and Girls in Science. 🧪
Tune in to ABC Melbourne at 10.45am tomorrow to hear Elisabetta Barberio talk about #darkmatter and #WomenInSTEM on @unesco.org's International Day of Women and Girls in Science.🧪
Thank you to everyone who joined us in our search for #darkmatter in 2025! We're looking forward to another year of exploration, outreach and discovery in 2026 🧪
The LZ collaboration has released results that extend the experiment's search for low-mass #darkmatter and set world-leading limits on WIMPs. It was the first time it has detected signals from the sun's neutrinos. Congratulations to our researchers Robert James and Theresa Fruth and all involved! 🧪
We might be unlocking one of the universe's great mysteries, but that doesn't mean we don't have to do the chores! As equipment arrives in the lab, it must be cleaned before it is installed and tested. All of this is in preparation for the arrival of the SABRE South #darkmatter experiment! 🧪
It's a wrap on another collaborative, engaging and inspiring Annual Workshop of #DarkMatter scientists from across Australia! As we near the end of the year, we are energised by what we have learnt and what 2026 holds. 🧪
It's not very often you hear a member of the audience blowing raspberries during a presentation, but we're happy to hear gorgeous baby noises at our Annual Workshop! It has been fantastic to see the light relief our CI's little one has brought to our deep dives into #darkmatter research. 🧪
We've arrived in Canberra for the 2025 Annual Meeting of the Dark Matter Centre! Our members have travelled from Melbourne, Adelaide, Western Australia, and Sydney to attend this event. We are looking forward to sharing knowledge and ideas throughout the week. #DarkMatter #Physics #Science 🧪
📡We are receiving transmissions from deep underground! This dashboard displays the performance of the equipment in our underground lab in Stawell. The same software reports temperature, humidity and dust levels. This ensures conditions are optimal for the arrival of our #darkmatter experiment. 🧪
Science-lovers, are you looking for an inspiring way to celebrate Halloween (and Dark Matter Day)? Join us for a livestreamed tour of the Stawell Underground Physics Lab in Australia and Boulby Underground Lab in the UK on Friday. Register for free at: dmd-stawell-boulby.eventbrite.co.uk 🧪
Congratulations Elisabetta Barberio on being awarded the Italian Bilateral Scientific Cooperation Award by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. It recognises a commitment to international collaboration, and the knowledge that in science, we are more together. 🧪
The SABRE South #darkmatter experiment has reached an exciting milestone with the arrival of a glovebox in the Stawell Underground Physics Lab. Scientists will use the glovebox to protect the experiment's ultra-pure crystals from exposure to air, which would cause them to degrade. 💎🧪
Imagine being able to 'see' through solid rock. Federico Scutti is developing a technology that uses particles from space, or muons, to do exactly that. New funding from Australia's Economic Accelerator aims to help turn this fundamental science into a tangible product for the mining industry. 🧪
Tune in to ABC Melbourne at 10am tomorrow to hear Ben McAllister talk to Raf about all things #science! 🧪
Tune in to ABC Melbourne at 10.40am today to hear @benmcallister.bsky.social talk about the National Quantum & Dark Matter Road Trip and how it's bringing fundamental science to students across Australia. 🧪
Maxim Goryachev has received ARC Future Fellowship funding for his work towards building a solid-state nuclear isomer transition clock. "I’m excited to continue advancing metrological systems for their technological potential, and their insights into the fundamental workings of the universe." 🧪
We joined @astrokatie.com of @perimeterinstitute.ca and @spaceaustralia.com's Rami Mandow at the Stawell Underground Physics Lab today. Dr Mack was involved with the lab when it was no more than a big idea. Now, it is a state-of-the-art facility soon to host the SABRE South #darkmatter experiment.🧪
Congratulations to Centre members, and the entire ATLAS collaboration, awarded the 2025 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics. We're incredibly proud of your work and commitment to this collaboration. Learn more and see scientists involved at: breakthroughprize.org/Laureates/1/... 🧪
Welcome to the journey of the SABRE South vessel into the Stawell Underground Physics Lab! The mighty vessel will be transported from Swinburne into the pristine lab in coming months. Scientists will then start taking data they hope will reveal the presence of #darkmatter particles. Stay tuned ..🧪
From 1km underground to the other side of the globe, we had a blast in our Beyond the Stars event. Teachers and students joined us for a live glimpse of the Stawell Underground Physics Lab. It was part of a collaboration to give teachers the tools to teach #astronomy and #darkmatter science. 🧪
Tune in to ABC Wimmera tomorrow at 7.15am to hear educator Jackie Bondell talk about the livestream happening at the Stawell Underground Physics Lab, where science educators will come together to talk about #astromony and #darkmatter. Register for the event at cce.jotform.com/250637152135... 🧪
Wow, what a fantastic experience it was to be immersed in Su Wenchi's sellout Sensing Dark Matter experience at the Science Gallery Melbourne. It was fascinating to see the Stawell underground laboratory used as a backdrop for this VR performance art. #sciart #science #darkmatter 🧪
"By developing programs that engage students from all backgrounds, she ensures that the next generation - no matter where they come from - has access to the wonders of physics." Congrat ,Jackie Bondell, on being named the @ippog.bsky.social Outreacher of the Month. 🧪 ippog.org/news/outreac...
Scientists have been in Stawell this week to discuss, collaborate and plan the work that will bring them closer to understanding the elusive #darkmatter. Greg Lane of ANU and Darren Croton of Swinburne visited the Stawell Underground Physics Laboratory with Anita Vecchies of Melbourne Uni. 🧪
