You know what's a good idea? Adopting a big lovable dog this weekend. bsky.app/profile/darw...
Yes. The answer is unequivocally yes. Grizzly bears belong in CA. We humans should learn to live with them.
I love that the Chron is covering the return of California's wolves. It's a blessing packs are roaming wild places again. But it's unfortunate how they framed this story: portraying the wolves' natural and beneficial behavior as "not good." What's not good is the excessive number of cattle.
Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee announced an influx of private money today to fund illegal dumping cleanup and enforcement efforts from the Crankstart foundation. Residents at the presser were thrilled. Oakland police Deputy Chief Tedesco's warning to illegal dumpers got the biggest cheer.
It doesn't look good for Oakland's Measure E, the parcel tax to fund city services that Mayor Barbara Lee, city unions, and progressive groups campaigned for. What do Oaklanders make of this? Tax fatigue? A conservative shift in resident's views? Distrust of City Hall?
It's an unusually prolific year for morels in Northern California. They're fruiting in all over, across a wide altitude range, in clusters and solo, multi-species, and the mushroom bodies are larger on average than most years.
Since 2025, Pacheco has received $37,450 in campaign contributions from law enforcement groups, mainly police unions that fiercely opposed SB1421 and continue to resist transparency laws. (Data from CA Sec. of State)
Something has been happening in Sacramento that threatens government transparency and accountability. Lawmakers, led by Asm. Blanca Pacheco, keep trying to undermine the state Public Records Act. Pacheco recently introduced a bill to allow cities to charge the public for records requests.
Oakland Report, which says it's North Star is facts, is constantly getting facts very, very wrong. Example: David and Andy Duong were indicted for allegedly bribing Sheng Thao — NOT for political contributions. Such big errors makes me think they're using AI to write this slop.
"The Mediterranean-style house measures 1,793 square feet and sits on a 5,362-square-foot corner lot, according to the listing. Marketing materials described refinished hardwood floors, fresh interior paint, new light fixtures and southern views." (www.sfchronicle.com/sf/article/m...)
Shocking video. 2 Oakland police officers engaged in a "ghost chase," not informing supervisors they were chasing a reckless driver. The driver crashed, killed a bystander. The officers drove away laughing. Great investigative reporting from Lisa Fernandez. www.ktvu.com/news/new-vid...
It's bonkers that the Christian conservatives' halftime show headlined a guy who once sang about justifying statutory rape on an island.... Kid Rock's 2001 song "Cool, Daddy Cool."
In 1924, a racist mob of Piedmont residents forced a Black family to flee their home. Sidney and Iréne Dearing were Piedmont's first Black home owners. A new lawsuit by their descendants alleges that city officials fraudulently took steps to push them out. oaklandside.org/2026/02/04/p...

Don't Oakland's new speed enforcement cameras look like Johnny 5, the AI robot from the 1980s sci-fi film "Short Circuit"?
You contact CHP where now? (From a recent Oakland police internal affairs investigation.)
Now this: the FBI locked out MN state police from investigating the shooting. This means only the feds will have the evidence, access to crime scene, witnesses, etc. But federal leaders, POTUS on down, have preempted their own investigators by already rendering biased, politicized conclusions.
The Vice President’s statement further biases the situation and forecloses the possibility of a fair investigation of the facts. It’s highly unusual, no, unprecedented that the nation’s VP would trip over himself to urgently assert claims about a single law enforcement shooting
DHS Sec Noem went further, immediately demonizing the shooting victim by branding her a terrorist. Signaling that her agencies will kill American citizens and immediately make excuses rather than dispassionately examine the facts.
It was on the chest of a soldier in Washington D.C. last year, if that helps. And he and others in their group were also wearing this little black parachute (?) patch.
Anyone know what unit of the Army this patch signifies? My attempts to look it up point to the Army's Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command? www.usar.army.mil/USACAPOC/
It's good to see that a strong majority of Californians support due process, one of the most fundamental rights to preserve democracy. But Republicans are least supportive of it, and they're supposedly the party of law and order? calmatters.org/justice/2025...
According to OPD, ICE doesn't currently use CrimeTracer. But many other federal law enforcement agencies do use it.
OPD Sgt. Yun Zhou is explaining how the CrimeTracer app works. The app allows OPD officers to search through thousands and thousands of crime reports and other documents, like a Google search through police records.
Waiting for tonight's Oakland Privacy Advisory Commission meeting to start. The board is supposed to hear reports about OPD's CrimeTracer Forensic Logic software and illegal dumping surveillance cameras.
Anyone know the exact manufacturer and model of this less-lethal projectile launcher?
