There's not much in the way of mechanics to discuss this time: it's Lasers & Feelings, arguably the simplest RPG system around. So instead, we filled it to the brim with complementary materials over time: from sourcebooks, to posters, to a double EP by Kizunaut and Bytemapper.
TREMERINE: SEA OF THE STARS is a Lasers & Feelings megahack inspired by 1980s scifi OVAs about getting you and your crew in a series of starbuckling hijinks across a very European sector of space, seven years after a major interstellar war. [ datasparrow.itch.io/tremerine-se... ]
Last but not least, we'd be remiss not to mention the 3D printable Divjak MKII miniature included with the game (6mm, Battletech scale), the Roundstart Quote Generator and THE BATTLE ANTHEMS, whose proceeds go straight to the featured artists. [ datasparrow.bandcamp.com/album/fist-w... ]
A couple of other highlights include our attempt to adapt Dudley's Cross Counter from Street Fighter 3rd Strike (Hirdmann), and the absolutely broken gambling addict machine that is Zeta Baz (based on the rejected street fighter 2 design popularized by @wooliewoolz.bsky.social's Fighterpedia).
Its roster features 8 mechs, which were all attempts to translate particular fighting game characters archetypes and mechanics into a hexgrid, turn-based format: from basic ideas like "how should a grappler work" (Typhoon) to "what if we put Focus Attack Dash Canceling in here" (Syfu).
FIST WORLD VOLGA is a 1v1 skirmish game set on a very Yugoslavian world, which recently became host to a mecha pitfighting league. It plays like a streamlined version of Battletech, as seen through the lenses of fighting games like Cyberbots and Tekken. [ datasparrow.itch.io/fist-world-v... ]
All the paid games on this map are on sale now, by the way: 50% OFF until August 8th! You can check them out here: itch.io/s/197330/gen...
Excellent question! Hopefully this passage from the second supplement book for Tremerine: Sea of the Stars can provide a satisfactory answer! (tl;dr it's an Alcubierre Drive. We haven't gotten particularly granular with its mechanics because they've never been the focus of any of our works so far)
Some establishing shots from around the place - or our attempt to answer the question of "in how many ways can you depict the exact same setting?". [illustrations by A. Lain, Alex "FlyingDebris" Iglesias, M. Benatti and @cdbunker.bsky.social respectively]
Hey there! We are, in fact, alive - just busy working on some releases coming up for summer & fall. In the meantime, we also realized that we never actually posted an updated version of our setting's map - especially now that the place has a name! So here you go, only took us 7 years.
Funny enough, that's the method we've been using to make physical bundles of some of our games, which you can check out on Rosario's own shop: priro.bigcartel.com
On a semi-related note to today's silly discourse, we very much forgot to announce that all of our stuff is 50% OFF as part of the Itch.io Summer Sale! That goes for both games and music, using promo code "summer" on our Bandcamp's checkout. [ Get everything from here: itch.io/s/192991/sum... ]
Some of our other releases, like hacks, zines and our more experimental games, were instead released on a pay-what-you want basis - which has also worked out well enough. We haven't done community copies yet, but we may explore that with some of our upcoming releases too.
All of our paid releases so far have had a streamlined "demo" version, which strips away most of the "fluff" (non-essential artwork and lore) and leaves you with the full rulesets - so you can decide whether or not the game is any fun to you before committing to the complete experience.
Does it count for tabletop games too? [ Game: datasparrow.itch.io/sulay-rally-... - Pamphlet #2, backside ]
Always glad to see people in this (or any other) space bring up IGPX, a series so dear to us we keep putting this dang livery in most racing things we make.
We were considering writing something for this year's Manifesto Jam, but Ves over here seemingly beat us to our own broad strokes: Your posts on the nature of your medium will never matter as much as what you've actually *done* for it, so please do something. It's way more fun than posting, anyway.
At the moment, it's basically an aggregate of all of our releases, paid and free, the former which you can basically access all in one go by subscribing to the various tiers - which do come with other benefits, but nothing too crazy yet. Anything free, like our tie-in mods, will remain free.
You can also resolve shots using 1D6, but we figured it would be fun to have actual shooting rules for a hunting game - although we'd be lying if we say we didn't partially steal the idea from @rookiejetstudio.bsky.social's HYPERWEAPON.
Alright, we have a couple of things to post about tonight - two of which are related to how quiet we've been lately, so might as well start with one of those: We've been working on a journaling game you can play with a real rifle called MA!OMBE TANK SAFARI. No page yet, but we've begun playtesting.
Pretty surreal to get the storefront blurb for one of your books read back to you on a video. Thank you @nocapsbb.bsky.social for the shoutout! Glad to know it landed well! [Link to both video and zine in the replies]
The cover for this record was our attempt at capturing the aesthetic of a rave flyer, although we did take a few hints from the Shardana and Triunfo covers in terms of general layout. We think it turned out pretty well, all things considered! [ datasparrow.bandcamp.com/album/free-l... ]
Post 8 of 8, illustrated by the unmistakable @lecapitaineison.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy. Despite the game being set in Space Paris, the background photo was actually taken in Athens. As with the Sulay poster, you're also likely to spot this one at any of @princerosalium.bsky.social's booths.
And yes, the album cover for this one is very much that same render, but widescreen. Aside from that, the layout was inspired by Nine Inch Nails' 2005 album "Year Zero", whose sound also informed part of SULAY RALLY TRAX's. [ datasparrow.bandcamp.com/album/sulay-... ]
Poster 7 of 8, illustrated by the combined effort of Vista Invert (model), A. Triolo (photography), Elias Ruffner (compositing) and @locobo.bsky.social (VFX). If you ever find @princerosalium.bsky.social's booth at an art market, you're likely gonna spot this one in the Data Sparrow section!
The cover's layout was inspired by Dopplereffekt's 1999 album "Gesamtkunstwerk", with a widescreen version of the game's card backing added in for texture. This was also our very first in-house album, scored by MINIMIS and @lucebreaks.bsky.social. [ datasparrow.bandcamp.com/album/select... ]
Poster 6 of 8, illustrated by returning champion @kabelsalat.art! This was actually the first poster we made chronologically, as a version of it was part of our submission to @pizzapranks.bsky.social's INDIEPOCALYPSE #67!
