Had the first of the Asian long beans with dinner tonight. These are some of the prettiest beans I’ve ever grown, and I’m looking forward to trying some different recipes.

The meal I wait for all year: fried squash, green beans with a red potato, sliced cucumber and tomato. The potato came from a farmer friend, and I grew everything else. It was too hot to make cornbread. #yum

Tonight, we sat outside and watched the sky go from blue and pink to dusk. The birds flitted around, settling. I watered the garden and we talked about how nice it felt outside. It’s those moments that make everything else bearable. (Photo was last year on this day)

Went to Chattanooga’s (and mine too) first Ren Fair today. It was really cool — very well attended, 200+ vendors, lots of trinket trading. Even the rain didn’t really slow things down.

I built a trellis today. I had to buy some zip ties to connect the chicken wire (it’s hard to see) to the PVC. I’m excited to see what it looks like covered in bean vines. I’m putting rattlesnake beans on one side, and yard long beans on the other. The closer trellis will be for cucumbers. 🌱
