Breathing outside without a mask is like licking a fireplace today. 🤮Horrifying to think that 100 years ago, Pittsburgh was like this nearly every day. Pour one out for air quality regulation and the EPA for helping transform the city into a great place to live.
RIGHT? We've hit brown but fortunately not the off-scale brown, which, uh, looks the same as the on-scale brown. Also what's with the scale changing from being +50 to suddenly going +100 and then "and up" in the same physical distance? I'm sure they get this a lot though. :)
Actually, that turns out to have been wrong. PJM now announcing that we _did_ set a new peak load record of 168,158MW. So I take that back - record-setting, not rare. :) But factoring in demand response is a little tricky to juggle. insidelines.pjm.com/pjm-serves-l...

Third impression: totally wins on convenience to be able to walk there. Smaller neighborhood crowd was nice. Fireworks didn't launch as high, which cost them a lot on aesthetics for drift time, which it turns out I like. Huge volume of smaller fireworks. Pretty nice.

Honestly pretty impressive to see the LMP map at solid maroon with many suppliers over $1k / MWh (LMP - location marginal pricing, the price of buying the next megawatt hour in that region)
Location marginal prices only do this when they're extremely distressed. 🤓
Party time in PJM land, we just dropped below the 220v short term deviation voltage limit. (Measured inside my house, but at the end of a 200A line directly from the meter, so... pretty accurate). Probably not _technically_ a brownout yet but very close.
That made for a moist little walk this morning. Glad I wasn't running today (though I guess I'm just deferring the pain to tomorrow).

I keep asking whether I should upgrade and I just can't find any compelling reason to. Literally the best laptop I've ever owned. Even the battery is still generally fine (though down to 83% of original capacity, but it was amazing when new so now it's still .. just fine?)
Me, optimistic: maybe if I make it fancy enough, my family -- ok, my kids, Prof. Dr. Spouse is more tolerant -- won't notice that I'm trying to get rid of all the leftovers in the fridge. (We'll see. 🤣)
I think we should have replaced this a while ago. Better late than never. 🤷 Also how I learned about the usefulness of UV resistant flags. 🤣

Farewell, 2013-era laptop. You served well (except that you've been in a corner for the last 8 years and it's time for you to go). I'll miss the stickers, though.
