I posted this to a different platform, and wanted to share it here, too.

While waiting for the new lenses for my glasses to be fitted I overheard a different customer here to pick up her glasses having a bit of difficulty getting the staff person to understand her name. She finally showed the staff person her driver's license.

As many of you know, I talk to strangers. 🤷🏼‍♂️ When the staff person went to retrieve the woman's glasses, I asked her, if she didn't mind, to tell me her native language - because I wanted to add another language's words for "thank you" if I didn't already know it.

The woman hesitated just a moment, then told me her language is Farsi. I smiled and said "mamnoon". Her hesitation disappeared and she asked me, with a big smile, how I knew that. 🙂 I explained that a wonderful former co-worker had taught me, then I said I suppose I could have said "merci", which made her smile again. As she left, she said she could teach me another word in Farsi, "goodbye". She said "Khodāhāfez" (ko'dah hahfez), which translates to "may God protect you".

Although I'm not religious, I hope the same for her and other speakers of that language.

War is stupid and cruel and pointless and mean and heartbreaking. 😥

I've wondered how many people's lives he can deliberately devastate before affected people, their friends, & their loved ones, misplace their impulse control.
