Out little mirabelle plum tree had about 60 fruits on it when we went on holiday. Just not quite ripe enough to eat. On return, I find only a handful remain. But our 2YO dwarf apple has unexpectedly borne its first. Compensation plenty.
Hot as buggery in Florence today. Over 40 degrees and mean with it. We made do by going in lots of buildings made mainly of marble and taking (very) regular hydration breaks.
Ate this today in Firenze. Not bad burrata, but the prosciutto was the best I’ve ever had. Sensational pork product.
Been making panzanella - Tuscan bread salad - for decades now. First time I’ve ever made it in actual Tuscany.
Watching Logan’s Run. Peter Ustinov was two years younger than me when he played ‘Old Man.’ Depressingly, were the dead spit of each other.
I can tell you no more about this band than this is a genuinely ace album. My current top tip.
Just when you thought I couldn’t get any more impressive, it turns out I have the same lamp as Riz Ahmed.
The only downside with receiving this beautifully packaged Death By Milkfloat CD is that I really don’t want to ruin it by opening it. I might not. I may just leave it pristine.
Film fans should seek out Dead Man’s Wire. What indie films should be and Gus Van Sant’s best since Drugstore Cowboy, which was a loooong time ago.
Took the kids to see Madness in Halifax last night. Ace time had by all. They* put a picture of Hockney on the big screen at the end of It Must Be Love, which was a lovely touch. *The band, not my kids.
Clarkson doesn’t grow the apples, brew the cider, bottle it or distribute it. He simply has a label slapped on featuring his name. It’s just corporate piss. Proper cider needs protecting.
Monarchists believe the royal family derive their authority (their right to rule over us) directly from god. Presumably their right to go begging to paedos (while vacuuming up our taxes) also derives directly from god.
Because if they stood in front of them, they’d get shot in the fucking face.
The true meaning of Christmas - Boxing Day leftovers. (Don’t worry, bubble n squeak is planned for later.)
Impossible and unfair to pick one photo from Martin Parr’s incredible work but, for me, the Joan of Arc look of defiance on this lass’s face is unsurpassed. One of thousands of supreme images perfectly representing the working class of our nation.
10 mins to kill, so I’ve popped down Hessle Foreshore only to find bridge, river and weather combining to gloriously moody effect.
My restaurant review in the Yorkshire Post today is Sebby’s in Pocklington and Pub of the Week is Spati in Hull.
I’ve had a long, tragic run with Yorkshires. Today, that streak ends with some aplomb.
