It's more than a little spooky, seeing the foam come and go like wisps of thought in the darkness. It's also the most serenity you're ever going to find on a cruise ship.

"No saving seats!" says #RoyalCaribbean (lol). I try to give cruise staff a pass because they're just workers, they're not the problem. But in instances like this they do truly suck sometimes. This is what makes cruises such a miserable experience. The social animals banding together to horde seats & block out outsiders, and the staff just watching it happen. I count 30 saved seats, against maybe half a dozen in the hot tub and NO ONE in the pool. Why? Because people suck.

Why *anybody* would pay theater prices for IMAX (to say nothing of theater prices for snacks 😱) just boggles my mind. Get IMAX at home! Step 1- dig an old CRT out of recycling, the boxier the screen the better. Step 2- turn it on and sit two feet from the screen. #filmsky

The ship's Promenade (moneygrubbing) deck at 2am. There's a vertical orientation to the boat that overcomes the length. Also the place is much more tolerable when it's empty...

Was fortunate to be invited on a second cruise event, this time with Royal Caribbean to Mexico. Am again kinda torn? It's an amazing occasion, a chance to see more of the world. I loved my old Kia. Sharp styling and crazy options for the price. It's all fun and games until someone's engine blows up. Anyways, some tall palm trees reflected in red off the roof.

Of course the RGB tower is photogenic, but the parking garage wasn't built with good angles in mind. Up close there's really not much you can do with it. Turns out my back window was just the lens my camera needed.

The last photo this camera ever took. A Lumix ZS1 that was working on a long exposure of the short waves by the pier when a not-short wave completely changed the plan.

One of the wooden coasters at #MagicMountain. For some reason the exposure got random and captured this almost abstract portal to a mirror universe.

The #Bonaventure hotel has these exterior glass elevators. I was getting my shot perfect with the composition & reflections *just* right, and it moved 🤦🏼

There was a whole-ass sky out there behind that bird. A #bluesky even. But the camera decided, it serves the bird or it gets the hose again. So, bird.

Northbound on the 5 fwy thru Burbank. Handheld for a few seconds thru the windshield, a warp-speed chase that would leave you needing a moment. Three other shots got deleted, this once chanced into just the right framing at the right time.

The endless operation of a construction materials mill in the Valley's industrial core. The blur of the truck in motion in front of the unmoving mill under the night sky is a visual quirk that creates all the image's meaning.

On #thematterhorn at #disneyland, a slow shutter at the looming Abominable Snowman. That moment of motion blur makes it look as if the old animatronic is instead moving at real wampa-like speeds.

Images from a dinner theater show by The Dan Band somewhere in Ventura. These guys were the wedding band from #TheHangover but that was #justthetip of their iceberg. So to speak.

Lights from the Ventura show & the theatrics of a holiday show at the Nokia Center in downtown LA. Getting just a few rows from the stage like this at SoFi or the Bowl would be prohibitively expensive. Ventura show was maybe $75 each with drinks, Nokia was maybe $150 ea. Also with drinks.

Nice Peter & Epic Lloyd of Epic Rap Battles of History, performing at #thewhisky in West Hollywood. You're right there in the room, everyone has front-row seats to jam along to the band doing their thing. This was under $100 each, even with drinks.

That's an insane payoff. (Nice Peter getting into character)

If I had jeans to sell, this is the image I would sell them with. Shaded into a light amber silhouette by the sunset is the rock at #pointdume, with the darker and sharper silhouette of Some Guy who just happened to peering out to sea at just the right moment. A very cinematic closure.

Also from Point Dume and the rock in the distance. Nearby two besties lean in for a selfie in front of a sunset with its colors so contrasted as to look like a nuclear explosion. This simple sunset becomes an almost comedic take on the apocalypse.

The end of the movie. The helicopter flies off into the sunset/sequel somewhere across the ocean, while onlookers caught up in the moment capture what they can.

The actual postcard of that living color postcard from the edge, presented here in desaturated & muted tones entirely for the purpose of #mood. Just being #pretentious

A morning shot looking up at the #WellsFargo towers cutting up into the sky and carving up the sunlight below. The peaks of the towers are almost ethereal as the sunlight seemingly gathers amid a cloudless #bluesky.

Looking straight up from the middle of an intersection at the inward-arching #skyscrapers at the corners of the frame. The night sky is hazy, with the building lights casting a dark amber glow around towers unique in form defining clear boundaries against the glow of heaven above.
