Builder of web things. Still hacking every day. Building tableslayer.com and counterslayer.com.
Our Marvel Champions obsession is high enough that we buy and play the new expansions on day 1.
State of my table after the 11 year olds run off to eat lunch. They're off to Wave Echo Cave next.
Table Slayer now provides the ability to add polygon "fog rooms" that allow you to quickly toggle fog on and off in specific areas of your map.
I finally have cracked Figma quality multiplayer responsiveness in Table Slayer. This took all day. Such a fun/hard project. Just when you think the problem is on the network side (lag), or the sync side (update clobbering), it's actually on the 3D rendering side. This was all three!
Table Slayer now handles large maps in a more elegant fashion. It projects an outline of your viewable TV space in the editor (based on your TV size). Then you can pan around as you need.
Table Slayer now has a performance setting so that you can trade frame rate for effects fidelity. This should help folks trying to run it on older hardware.
For example. The trays have angled slots so that when viewing them from above, you can see the standee content. This makes it much easier to figure out which piece is which.
Counter Slayer now supports "standee" style storage for games like Plum Island Horror / Star Wars Rebellion. I love these small bin packing / efficiency puzzles. It reminds me a lot of my UI component work. How can you make something generic enough to be useful and reusable?
The nice part about having lots of projects (Counter Slayer, Table Slayer, and my person site) is that I'm never bored. I always think... oh, that one is in pretty good shape, and then suddenly have a new idea for it. Today I'm adding "standee" storage to Counter Slayer similar to this one.
Working on a blog post for my favorite TV shows. How many times has "The Last Supper" imagery been used for a show cast?
Lost my first play of Adamastor to mutiny. Got caught in bad weather the last three rounds. Fun little strategy card game.
I'm using their "old" one. A few nice things. Instant copies (how my prs work). Embedded locally. One remote master syncs with one local copy per frontend (I have Europe and US regions for slayer). That means 0-1ms reads in my APIs. Also instant point in time backups for 30 days.
A proper bluegrass festival campsite should have at least one abandoned vehicle in view. Ours has three. Perfect day in Pennsylvania today.
I added a bunch of new weather and drawing effects to Table Slayer. Along with some creative usage of lights, you can turn any flat map into an animated setting.
Small update on my activity tracker. I added a heatmap visualization (which was challenging since my site is black/white only). Still waiting on board game geek API access. Will likely add Reddit soon, which I post to occasionally, and then Plexamp for music listens.
I just deployed a rewrite to Table Slayer's sync system. It should be MUCH more reliable and remove issues where your updates didn't transfer. Table Slayer is now nearly real-time, and doesn't have the second or two lag that happened before. No more "Saving..." toasts in the UI. This is a big deal.
If I'm playing a city builder, I'm the person that will give all my people appropriate names.
Building an "Activity" section of my site that consolidates my Bluesky, Hackernews, Github, Reddit, and Plex content into a singular, readable feed. It ingests through Cloudflare workers. I am already dreading the maintenance, but this has been a pipe dream of mine since forever.
This is what happens when you overbuild your fun side project. Using @tur.so embedded replicas, I've made most of the DB queries for Table Slayer under 1ms. Using a "remote" DB is still fast, at around 30ms. Image resizing on Cloudflare is typically the slowest part of the payloads.
Married @nopartofnothin.bsky.social 14 years ago. We served drinks to great guests before the ceremony, so she sewed an apron to wear over her dress in case of spills. One of my fav pics from the day.
Kind of a neat figure. You can detach the heads! Ready for the game today.
It's Saturday! 📺 Post a cartoon TV series you love. Watched this classic with my son this morning!
