I teach kids about history and I hang out with my family. Still brainstorming on the profile pic and header. He/him
Traveling to 1984 and back with the DC Universe Infinite app. Was amused to see covers from essentially the same series 40+ years apart.
My thoughts on DC’s books from Feb 1984 (cover date May) as I try to figure out what things were like before the CRISIS. www.notnews.org/comics/dc-co... #comics #comicsky #comicbooks
I bumped into this a couple of years ago. USA Today provided 25 free copies of the paper to my school every day for a semester. There was one day where there was an ad for a Call of Duty game wrapped around the front section.
This is why we need complicated algorithms to make music recommendations. How else would we figure out that these three artists are similar?
This issue came out in ‘89 and had two words of dialogue. The Batman title was in a weird place that summer - they had just gotten all the publicity from killing Jason Todd, but Jim Starlin left the title right after and there were fill in writers for a while before they intro’d Tim Drake.
Don’t think I have taken this out of its bag in about twenty years. It looks like the comic was trying to sync up from the start.
Look, I grew up in the Northeast, I live in the Northeast, I work in the Northeast, I understand the basis for every generalization about the Northeast, but I will take a back seat to no Philadelphian in my appreciation for LeVar Burton. :)
The fun thing about these is getting a rough idea of the growth curve by seeing the change between different dates.
In class this week: My seniors have been stranded on a deserted island with a handful of resources. This was supposed to be a first aid kit, but instead I guess it’s a name tag for Legion of Super-Heroes tryouts. I wonder what @markwaid.bsky.social would say.
Talking about media industries as part of our opening unit on media literacy. I bought a copy of the Phila Inquirer from 1994 so students could see print media literally shrink over the last thirty years.
In honor of George Pérez’s 70th birthday. Grateful for the stories and joy that he shared with the world.
I get the newspaper delivered to my school every day. Got to give my students a lesson in advertorial content today!
Glad the 4K disc art for The Marvels conveys the appropriate tone for this very fun movie.
Pretty sure Adventures of Superman 450, right before the first three issues you posted, is the first Superman issue my brother bought when we started collecting comics in '89. What a doozy to jump into the start of a new story that was also playing off tons of backstory that we had to catch up on!
I mean, I was definitely a more mellow Gen Xer, but I can't imagine anyone with even the faintest familiarity saying R.E.M. was not political.
It looks like @jamesgunn.bsky.social is on a similar wavelength on Instagram/Threads.
