This is the first year I've gotten very ambitious with carrots. this variety is Napoli and they are delicious but don't keep well, even when refrigerated. So every day I grab one as a snack.
"If you'll stop calling people white nationalists, then I'm open to the idea of not being one", is just the reverse of this cartoon and one more example of Murc's Law in action.
Just testing something out here to see how bsky handles links within animated SVG files.
This is Daisy's favorite chair. We bought it at a garage sale because it looked like the chair my granddad used to sit in reading westerns, and I thought maybe I could sit in it and read a book. But there's just not room for both of us.
I got my Slate pre-order locked in today. They're saying 7 to 10 months for delivery. I've only wanted a small EV light truck for ages.
We took our good girl Petunia to the vet for a checkup today. She's about 7 weeks shy of her Gotcha Day, so she's 19 years old now.
The dawn redwood I planted in the yard is still growing strong. It's over 6 feet after 2 years, and I suspect it might get much taller through the growing season. I bought this at the going out of business sale for Gindhart's Nursery on Peoria Road.
Never give up! Never surrender! Here's to year 8 of trying to grow okra in the PNW.
We ate dinner at Sada Sushi tonight, a very belated Mothers' Day dinner. We were seated at the weird table in the corner which is decorated with a vase filled with Andes Mint wrappers, and a bunch of small cats folded from chopstick wrappers. So we added our own. Hot tip: go to Sada, order ika.
Saw this poem in an alley. Corvallis is such a great town! "Pausing To Hear A Mountain" Greg Kleiner, Corvallis, Oregon
Trader Joe's tinned calamari is really good! Thanks to a deeply weird guy in the r/sardines subreddit for the heads up.
A neighbor who is a pastor wore this shirt at the celebration when his mother came back from heart transplant surgery. I think they see these shirts purely as a political provocation without understanding how it comes across to the rest of us that he fantasizes about murdering an imaginary intruder.
Flowering currants are blooming! These grow wild in the wooded part of our backyard.
If you live near an asian store like Daiso, they have little egg timers that go right in the boiling water and change color to help get the eggs just how you like them. I still struggle with peeling soft boiled eggs reliably, but this gets them cooked perfect.
While this account will remain primarily focused on soup, I do enjoy salads as well, and have been eating a lot lately. So tonight we made croutons from homemade Italian sweet bread and garlic. They came out really crunchy!
CRITICAL SOUP ALERT! 🍜🚨 KH Pho & Grill has added a Pho Rib to their menu which is excellent.
When I was a kid, we had the same mercury thermometer for decades. New digital thermometers are basically disposable, using a tiny watch battery less than 8mm across. If someone in your family gets sick, sorry, the battery's dead. Have fun chasing around town for an LR41 watch battery.
Corvallis High School has a stream that passes through campus. After a basketball game this evening, we saw this nutria just chilling in the grass.
Who needs a gym membership when you've got a wheelbarrow, a shovel, and two big piles of rocks?
Trying out the plate lunches from Local Grindz in Sweet Home. We got pulled pork, curry katsu and yakisoba noodles.
