Been adopted by a feral cat family, two adults, two playful kittens. If they so much as glimpse you through a window they race off into the wood.
The ghost international platforms of Ashford ‘International’ Station. Wonder if I’ll ever get on a train to the Continent from there again.
The Arthur Sullivan (of Gilbert and) fame memorial in Embankment Gardens. With the obligatory weeping muse, semi-naked of course.
In a bid to deal with courgettes tsunami am trying new recipes. Tonight smoked courgette and tarragon tahini dip. Also smoked the Chioggia beetroot which is going in a salad with fennel fronds and Honeycomb tomatoes. That’s one crop dealt with!
This morning’s harvest… the usual daily courgette plus Chioggia beetroot. I wonder if it really comes from Chioggia 🤔
Tonight to go with the lamb chops a variation on Romesco sauce. Smoked peppers, garlic, tomatoes and hazelnuts blended into a sauce. 8 minutes to smoke and cook the lot in the Ninja Woodfire.
Tonight in anticipation of my return to Yorkshire for Harrogate Crime I felt the need for a Barnsley chop. Not that I’ve ever seen one in Barnsley. But wow😋
Wasn’t expecting to be joined by a young praying mantis for our evening drink tonight #Venice.
Lina’s home made cannoli at her little Sicilian food spot in Santa Marta are some of the best in town. Lovely arancini, melanzane parmi and caponata too. #Venice
Tip for #Venice. During summer a special boat leaves San Basilio and wends its way to the stop for the beach at San Niccolò. It’s this jolly open cruiser at the moment. Like a pleasure trip on a normal vaporetto ticket. No 8 service mornings and afternoons only. Week days it’s mostly deserted.
Since it’s Saturday night in Venice I’m fated to run into an Italian hen do. On this occasion with a bride who said one of her challenges for the night was to kiss an Englishman. Naturally I obliged and received these lovely biscuits in return. One got broken sadly.
Grazie mille. Here is one of the locations just up from me right now
A dish to look out for in Venice. Pasta all busara. In this case lagoon mantis shrimp in an incredibly intense tomato, wine and garlic sauce. Absolutely delicious. An occasional daily special in Al Merca on the Lido #Venice but you will see it elsewhere in the city (though perhaps not as good).
