I remember first encountering the Society of St. Pius X when writing about Mel Gibson’s absurdly antisemitic The Passion two decades ago. The hate generated by the bastions of white supremacy never dies out. dneiwert.blogspot.com/2004/02/mel-...
And now she’s targeting trans kids, one of the eight Democrats willing to not just throw them under the bus, but to back it up and crush them repeatedly. If my kid were still in school, he would be one of those targeted. It’s inexcusable.
Since winning the seat, she has done the centrist-Dem routine of tacking right, thus throwing many of her allies under the bus. The most noxious of these has been her bill to target salmon-eating sea lions in the Columbia River.
After being out of print for the past decade, my book about the incarceration of Japanese Americans in World War II -- and moreover about anti-immigrant racism and the foundations of modern suburbia -- is now available again through Barnes and Noble Press. www.barnesandnoble.com/w/strawberry...
Another bit of noteworthy “Holy Grail” trivia: It was also the favorite movie of Keiko, the “Free Willy” orca. While he was being rehabilitated in the facility built for him in Newport, Oregon, trainers found it captivated him. From “Of Orcas and Men”:
Well, just about any source would be more accurate. Wikipedia has it right, for instance. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lewis_a...
Trump’s War on History includes creating utterly wrong maps for the America 250 commemoration. Literally nothing is right in this map.
This is like the time Benny and Charlie and Jack vowed to go hunt Nazis and got no further than the mirror.
Tucker claimed that Fetterman‘s win was evidence of Democratic election fraud. That they won despite ”mentally defective candidates who can barely speak.” (Exactly how Warnock fit that description was unclear, though it’s not hard to guess.)
Randomly sharing a 2023 visit by a Bigg’s orca and her calf to the west side of San Juan Island at sunset. #killerwhales #SJI
Bo Gritz died quietly and mostly forgotten last week. But the legacy of his deeply fascist action-hero ethos--especially the militia movement he led, which eventually morphed into MAGA--not only lives on, but now dominates our world. davidneiwert.substack.com/p/the-far-ri...
The New York Post has the answer: He “broke his own arm.” Their obsequious mendacity knows no bottom.
So far, none of the headlines deem it worthy of pointing out that he brutally snapped the Marine’s arm.
So Trump is going to return to the scene of his 2011 humiliation. WHCA dinners were always a fun thing that allowed lesser schlubs to poke fun at presidents to their face, and for the president to return the favor. This however will be a dull affair. No one will dare to make fun of him this time.
Authoritarians like Trump are always eager to make people forget about the eliminationism and hatred that lurks in their past--because that makes it easier to proceed with their own supremacist project. open.substack.com/pub/davidnei...
Fuentes' neofascist rant demanding women be rounded up into 'rape gulags' exposes an authoritarianism that would make 'Handmaid's Tale' seem like a benign fantasy. It also laid bare how white supremacy works. open.substack.com/pub/davidnei...
Trump and his minions keep insisting that domestic terrorism is strictly a left-wing phenomenon, so of course they have found ways to depict far-right violence as a product of 'Antifa' and leftist organizing--while blurring the line between protest and terrorism. open.substack.com/pub/davidnei...
Indeed, he's just advertising his own abysmal ignorance about the nature of fascism, which is in fact an essentially metastasized form of right-wing populism. Scholars are in general agreement on this. Roger Griffin defines fascism as "palingenetic ultranationalist populism."
Not really. Penn takes a seat in the office, leans back, naps, and never wakes up.
The ongoing assault on American democracy is fueled by and founded on right-wing projection fantasies. When they accuse ordinary Americans who haven’t tried to overthrow the government “insurrectionists,” it’s really just a confession. open.substack.com/pub/davidnei...
