On reaching the free states, I could not but notice the marked difference between the two sections. Business seems to be going on in the usual way here; people can come and go as they please, unmolested; and every one seems to enjoy a sense of security which is not felt by any in the South. There is truly a reign of terror there. Slavery is a power that controls all--is feared by all; and men can and do commit deeds of outrage and violence in the name of slavery with impunity.

today's NYT Headline from History: Librarians Told of Computer Aids #MARC #cataloging "is still in use today"

LIBRARIANS TOLD OF COMPUTER AIDS
May 31, 1967. Novel predictions were made at the Special Libraries Association's 58th convention in New York, The Times reported: "Researchers in the future may browse through library catalogs in the comfort of their homes or offices," and there will be "intercontinental exchanges of information between libraries via satellites." The predictions were made by information expert Joseph Becker, "one of the first to develop information technology," The Times wrote. Mr. Becker pointed to Project MARC, an experimental "Machine Readable Catalogue" program the Library of Congress started the previous year, as an example of computer technology already being applied in libraries. The goal of MARC was to "make all bibliographic information accessible through centralized databases." The system was named the international standard for electronic cataloging in 1973, and is still in use today.

Ivana now denies her previous account (and sworn testimony during divorce proceedings) vehemently enough for both of them, on the face of it. She maintains her own story was "totally without merit." Upon publication of the Daily Beast article above, she issued a press release: "I have recently read some comments attributed to me from nearly 30 years ago at a time of very high tension during my divorce from Donald. The story is totally without merit. Donald and I are the best of friends and together have raised three children that we love and are very proud of." (Santucci 2015) ...

... This is the man she had once described as tearing out fistfuls of her hair in a rage for recommending the surgeon who botched his scalp operation--which was apparently unsuccessful, in addition to being painful. Thereafter, Ivana wrote that her husband "jammed his penis" inside her without warning (and ipso facto nonconsensually.) She wrote of him smirking the next morning and asking, "with menacing casualness: "Does it hurt?" The implication being, he had wanted it to. It was payback for making his head hurt. Trump denies just one thing: having had the procedure to address a nonexistent problem--his bald spot (Zadrozny and Mak 2015). Ivana's press release concluded: "I have nothing but fondness for Donald ..."
