Wargamer for far too long. Late Antiquity, Wars of the Roses, Muslim armies and Chinese mainly. Currently playing a lot of MeG. Also WotR reenactor and LRPer. Blog
A small part of a 5 day C15th re-enactment event I was part of from Thursday last week to Monday this week. It was a tad hot 🥵
On a whim branched out into Hellenistic and bought some 3D Breed 3d printed phalangites to see how they would paint up. Pikes are a bit of a fiddle as you have to glue the top half onto the lower part but not too bad as the resin is lightweight. Reasonably happy with them. #wargaming
Whilst I'm pimping books today, here is one I am just finishing and have found to be rather interesting indeed. Looking forward to volume 2.
Arrived yesterday and I suspect jumps to the top of my "to read" pile 😁 @nicmorton.bsky.social
A second unit of "vanguard swordsmen" for use in Later Tang and 5 Dynasties armies. 3d printed 15/18mm figures from Ten Kingdoms files. Rest of the figures I have for these armies are from Khurasan Miniatures which are a bit slimmer than these, but they mix OK enough IMO. #wargaming
15mm Forged in Battle Byzantine cavalry to add to my Mid-C10th (ish) army. Stayed with metal figures for these as the rest of the army is, and mostly Forged in Battle which are acceptable. They may even be getting a run out at a comp soon 😀 #wargaming
Another batch of elephants to replace the metal ones I sold off recently (as I prefer these models). 3d printed 15/18mm from Scropha Miniatures files, downsized from 28mm (as usual). #wargaming
A few more additions to my Tang to Later Zhou collection to allow for some more army composition options. 15mm Khurasan Miniatures figures; 3 bases of crossbowmen and 6 bases of archers. #wargaming
It was an option that came with the files. The picture shows an example. I use 0.8mm wire spears but I think a narrower guage would not need the holes drilled out. The degree of downsizing from 28mm affects it though; a slightly larger print would probably not need drilling either.
Another random unit found in the "to paint" pile, this time some Sarmatians/Alans. 15/18mm 3d printed figures from Scropha Miniatures files. They are made up of the upper part of Parthian cavalrymen on lower half and horse parts from Frankish cavalry. Work nicely IMO. #wargaming
More elephants, and who doesn't need more nellies for their armies? Well, technically me as these replace metal ones I've just sold as I prefer these 😜 15mm 3d prints from Scropha Miniatures files downsized from 28mm originals. #wargaming
Latest unit is ancient Iberian. 15mm 3d printed figures from Cromarty Forge files mainly, with a few 3d Breed figures in there as well. Another accidental drift into a new army. The Iberians were to be an ally for 2nd Punic War Romans but I've ended up with more than I need. #wargaming
15/18mm Korean cavalry from Khurasan Miniatures; metal figures. I seem to be drifting into having an early medieval Korean army in that way that wargames armies often seem to come about. Can't complain, but finding info in English on them is not easy. #wargaming
15mm Tang cavalry from Khurasan Miniatures. Metal not 3d printed for a change. Add to the Tang cavalry I have but these are to use as Li Shimin's "black cavalry" at the start of the Tang dynasty. They were his elite bodyguard in black armour and clothing used for the decisive moment. #wargaming
Been a while since I got any painting finished due to other things going on, however, here are some recently completed elephants. 15/18mm 3d printed from Scropha Miniatures files; resized from 28mm originals. VVV waterslide decals to decorate. To be used as generals bases. #wargaming
15/18mm 3d printed figures from Ten Kingdoms files, bought from an eBay trader. These are mixed axemen and swordsmen for my Northern Song army. Units of such mixed infantry are recorded as leading attacks on occasion. #wargaming
A camp base and 4 generals for my C6th CE Sasanid Persian army. Figures are 3d printed from Resin Warfare 28mm files rescaled to 15/18mm size. Completes another project - at least until I decide I need to add to the army 🤣 #wargaming
About 7 months ago I started painting up a large batch of 3d printed Seljuq horse archers that were replacing rather tired metal ones - 129 figures in total. I have been painting them in units interspersed with other painting and I have just finished off the last unit of them😁 #wargaming
Something a bit different from my usual. Space Hulk genestealers. Rather enjoyed the change. About 2x as many still to do, and then the marines ... Don't think my usual photo setting work on larger figs painted a bit differently from my usual historicals, but they'll have to do for now. #wargaming
Another extra unit I found I had in the painting pile - this time Tang cavalry from Khurasan Miniatures. 15mm metal. #wargames
Slow painting week but have completed another unit of Seljuq horse archers. 15/18mm figures 3d printed from Battlecat Miniatures files resized from 28mm originals. As ever, easy to paint up and I like how they come out. #wargaming
15/18mm Sasanid infantry 3d prints from Resin Warfare files downsized rom 28mm. This is the 4th unit of the 3 I need ... typical wargamer approach 😂 Nice and easy to paint up, helped by keeping the paint scheme simple, and I am pleased with how they have come out. #wargaming
15/18mm Seljuq Turkish horse archers. 3d printed from Styriwars files downsized from 28mm original. These add to the 30 bases I already have and so should be plenty for most armies I am likely to use - but of course I have more left to paint as why stick to just what you need 😁 #wargaming
Some Mirliton 15mm late C13th/early C14th knights to add to my "German/HRE" collection - although the heraldry is generic. Nice figures that don't really suit my painting style unfortunately. They don't come out terrible but I do not do the figures any sort of justice.
15mm Han Chinese cavalry - Lurkio from Gripping Beast; they have recently brought some figures back into production that were not availably just after they bought Lurkio. Nothing flashy and add to the fairly large numbers I have already. Need to find an excuse to field them soon 😀 #wargaming
Wars of the Roses period "light" cavalry this time. 18mm figures from Khurasan Miniatures to add to my collection. The figures came with a heavy lance but I swapped it for a lighter one which feels somewhat more appropriate. #wargaming
The batch was 2 units, which means a few more figures than I usually paint in one go.
Been painting something other than ancient/medievals - ECW. Also, metal not 3d printed for a change. 15mm figures from Steel Fist with flags found many years ago free on the web. The figures are wonderfully detailed for (true) 15mm and my painting doesn't do them justice. #wargaming
