#FourPhotosOneMonth July was never going to live up to June’s magnificence. There was a needed personal reset and something horrific on the doorstep. I bear no external scars.

A truly massive sweetshop just over the border between Norway & Sweden. The choice was amazing. The signs are in pink and there are long counters full of sweets, lollies and chocolates in rainbow colours and lots of happy people. Yes reader, I got 2 kilos of pick n mix for 200 SEK and I have no regrets.

A new companion for me - a surprise gift from David. A cat cushion in a greenly yellow fabric with white eyes and paws and decorative motifs as if drawn with black ink. He has hearts on his chest and pointy ears. Vaguely triangular.

There was a huge fire in a housing estate across the river on 17th July. This is the view from just beyond my driveway that evening- many fires still burning. As the fire started in the afternoon nobody died and no-one was seriously hurt. Many of the cats that had to be left when the people evacuated have now been found. Over 100 homes destroyed- 400 people lost absolutely everything. I haven’t had a proper night’s sleep since it happened.

The sky to the south east where a large moon is rising , illuminating a low bank of clouds in vivid shades fading to a purple grey. The sky above is clear and a darker blue. It’s still too summer for stars at this hour in Norway .

Cricket on the windscreen ! #UrbanNature

A stunning green cricket with his legs akimbo on the rear windscreen of a car. The blue sky and fluffy white clouds are reflected in the glass.

We removed him gently and placed him on the grass before we drove home.

Just a quiet week … working and fretting and scrabbling as usual but there were a couple of moments of beauty in the day …

Two pink roses in a flowerbed that could use some weeding,. Despite that the roses are almost perfect with darker pink hues edging the petals and in the centre of the flower at the top.

A late summer sunset in Norway with a pink haze over the horizon and grey clouds fussing overhead against shades of creamy yellow and grey blue .

I found a krynoid at the garden centre on Saturday #DidNotBuy

A bluish green conifer bush with long tendrils in a lighter lime green shade. It looks as if it’s a bit sentient and might be out for a stroll, which isn’t really what I look for in a plant.

It’s arriving today. A comfy garden chair is on the terrace in the shade of the lilac tree (I was working out there yesterday and it was lovely ). There’s a full range of tea, I can do iced tea but no biscuits right now. Got ice lollies though !

Just been out watering the garden .. some plants are struggling in the warm but some are doing magnificently.. we haven’t had the extreme heat here (yet) …

Some blue lobelia sharing a pot with some pink chrysanthemums. The bees started pollinating the lobelia before I even got it planted!

Lavender thriving in the shadow of the lilac tree (as indeed do I) .

Some hardy red roses .. they really seem to love being where they are .

David has bought me a new sofa companion. Meet Mr Meer!

A triangular shaped stuffed cat made of a greeny yellow fabric. He is decorated with feathery paisley designs and heart motifs and spots, the design seems to be black ink.

It doesn’t happen too often but me and the OH are having a #GrandDayOut today and currently having beers in Sweden after a day of peering at old things (older than ourselves) and buying food at reasonable prices for a bloody change !

Current view from a bar in Strømstad. We are at the harbourside, the sun is shining on the water and there are wee clouds scudding and hazing over the sun.

At the top of the ramparts at Fredriksten fortress I. Halden, Norway. There are two cannons mounted on red carriages and David stands between them looking out over the harbour. Sweden and Norway have not always been friends .

A scene from a museum in Sarpsborg (the museum features a few buildings of a similar age to my house , which dates from 1894. This is both weird and not). Besides a large open fireplace a witch style broom is resting against the wall.

Went to the fabulous local second hand emporium today. Usually I come away from there with a bowl or a glass squirrel but today - best day ever ! A microscope!!

A second hand Swift M3500D microscope - a solid piece of kit with a body in off white with the stage and lenses in black. Although analogue technology it is still a thing of beauty to bring joy and usefulness to my world.

The feta cheese on my smashed avocado has a little face on it. Adorable !

On a train to more splendid adventures today but still blown away by my Wednesday night at Chelsea watching Heaven 17, Tony Hadley and Holly Johnson. There was dancing !

Day 5 working from home. Work was a bit annoying but I had enough energy at the end of the day to do some bits in the garden. My OH spoke at a conference and was given a bouquet so we have fresh flowers in the house. I do suspect I have a lot of bad luck lurking below the surface but today was ok.

A bunch of flowers with pale roses, purple chrysanthemums, babies breath and greenery . Subtle contrasts and shades .. very nice.

Day 4 back to work. Trains were pretty much on time, wifi was even working. Lots of biscuits and chocolates in the office for everyone and spring has arrived. I am not the unluckiest person on the planet, that’s for sure!
