The same weird edges you get from scanning a traditional image and cropping it are noticeable on KH1 Sora separating him from his glow. This is also on the points where KH2 Sora and Goofy overlap and KH3 Sora overlaps with Donald, indicating these were all once separate pieces.
If you zoom in on the HD image you can see these rough edges. This is common when scanning a traditional image and cropping it out. This is visible on earlier box arts too. I'm confident to say this is a legit drawing by Nomura, mans probably just exhausted.
